Yeah, I use a similar mechanic in my story, where it's culturally taboo to use a gravity spell on someone. It's strictly for fighting. But a subset of monsters discovered that it has positive uses, but keep the secret for fear of being ostracized.

Hehe, interesting take! In mine I don't go as far as it being taboo but it is considered rude/very intrusive to do it outside a fight w/o the person's consent (in battle you obviously attack w/o asking lol) - like, it's almost an act of intimacy if you let someone do for it "positive" purposes (but still very rare/unheard of).

Even the very first 'soul yanking' the monsters do to Frisk is significant in-story. Some dialog from the comic in the works:
