A lot of people a wondering if this is a joke or actual canon. I feel that since this is such an important plot point, when Alphys asks Gaster about the children in his lab, it would be in a finished comic not one of the quick sketches she does in between each new page. I feel that this is another one of those what-ifs.

it certainly isn't out of gaster's character honestly... but i'm pretty sure this isn't canon to the actual handplates timeline. Alphys left the skelebro's and went looking for gaster. This seems like gaster found her still looking at sans and papyrus and before she turned off the forcefield

I love that there are several comments asking for clarification whether this is actually canon to handplates or not. Like, as absurd as this situation is, no one thinks it's too out-of-character for Gaster, and that's beautiful.
