OKAY so a bit of backstory on this, like eight million years ago ArtSkullz asked me if I wanted to do a collab, and I tried to warn them that it takes me ages to finish any kind of collab work (if i even do it) but they were undeterred, haha. Subsequently it took like a year for this to all come together... jeez... thanks for bein so patient ArtSkullz , hahaAnyway, for a breakdown it goes

They suggested a Gaster and Sixbones scenario, so I came up with this thing real quick! Lot of questions about how Gaster and Alphys got into this situation, I'll leave it to you to puzzle out.

Well....assuming that each monster's magic operates on its own 'frequency' (because if it didn't then they'd all look and act the same due to them not breeding through genetics. They are made of dust and magic, after all.) in theory it should be possible to separate them eventually. Of course, to make things easier you would need to know what their frequency is ahead of time, but if you don't have that, then you would need something that would allow you to detect and pick out the two intermixed frequencies in similar fashion to a sound-mixing (or separating) program on a computer.
Once you've got the two frequencies isolated data-wise, then you would need not only a way to draw them apart magically, but also additional materiel (either most dust or a similar magic catalyst materiel. In most magic-heavy stories, gemstones can store magical energy, so a finely-ground gemstone powder could probably work) so that once separated your subjects would not simply turn to an inert puddle, but could perhaps begin to rebuild themselves on their own. As their form becomes more accurate, dose them with more materiel accordingly until solid or at least close-to.

Given that none of the melded monsters seem to be a perfect blend it's likely that their individual SOULS are still separate along with their memories, which is would explain why they seem to stutter over one memory or another at times when responding to outside stimuli or why when an Amalgam has two heads they'll sometimes look in completely opposite directions and fall on the floor trying to go two or more directions at the same time.

This isn't the first time I've seen Sixbones art. The first time I did it horrified me into muteness. Since then I've seen several variations. But as to THIS particular? I reread it about three times, then operating under the assumption that Gaster would wish to separate his offspring and of course Akphys assist him, began to form a hypothesis on how one might go about extracting one melded monster from another. As I wrote, it was like a mental 3D puzzle's pieces were interlocking. What I typed just FELT correct to do so up until the end, in which assumed examples were stated.
All in all? More time than I should have considering this is a fictional story, lol.
