Description
So Flowey says Sans has caused him his fair share of resets and it's generally assumed they were death resets, but what if they were bs Sierra game dead-end resets insteadFEATURING:
a) Not having the random item you need for a puzzle (any adventure game)
b) Time-sensitive events (Majora's Mask comes to mind, though King's Quest 3 and 4 probably also count)
c) Not doing something earlier that screws you over much later (LOOKING AT YOU, SPACE QUEST 2 and Leisure Suit Larry 3 from what I recall)
d) Puzzles with limited attempts (I can't think of one off the top of my head but Space Quest 4 and 5 come to mind)
e) Characters that just disappear forever if you miss them (Quest for Glory 2 and 3)
Sans outwitting or trolling Flowey into resetting seems way more likely to me than him using brute force, haha. Name the references and win a prize!*

The only references I know are the fuzzy pickle(Earthbound), and I'm guessing the 4 colored buttons may be from Please don't Touch Anything, if I'm correct.

This is definitely what the resets that Sans caused Flowey, maybe along with a few death resets when Flowey killed absolutely everyone.

As for the references . . .
That "Fuzzy pickles" was an Earthbound/Mother Reference, truffleruffles are a type of clothing so I'm not sure what that's about, that puzzle keypad looks like the Microsoft logo but with the blue and the yellow switched (but that might but a bit of a stretch.), and I feel like there was definitely a reference in that last panel but I can't place it.

I can kind of think of an instance for a character disappearing forever and thereby preventing the completion of a quest: Fallout New Vegas. There's a person you can find, usually pretty early on, from one of the smaller factions in the game. She asks for your help in recovering a shipment of something from a guard nearby where you find her, once you do she rewards you and then goes off. After which point she tends to vanish from the game entirely, which is really annoying because much later in the campaign where you have to convince members of her tribe to support the main faction you'd be working for, herself included. So if you find her first you'd very often messes up a bigger quest later on.

One thing I remember was actually from my current favorite game, Final Fantasy 9. Particularly I think of the teas side-quest which was one of the only things I missed in my first file to actually fully beat the game. I even beat Ozma and then still couldn't have a complete file because of that. X3
Also, from what I've heard, Dead Rising would fall squarely into category b. I haven't played the game myself but everyone says that all the story missions are time-sensitive and if you fail them, you have to reset the whole thing or just go out and slay zombies endlessly to vent your frustration.
Also the Futurama game kills you if you fail any of their number puzzles even once. Plus even though it seems they have patterns, they change that half way through and throw in a random number on one, and then the next puzzle just has no pattern at all. Sans would probably be proud.

I kinda imagine once he figured out that Flowey had control of the timeline, he started doing this so that he wouldn't get bored. ^-^ Of course Flowey had all the time in the world, so eventually he did everything he could do while being nice, and then he started murdering everyone.
