After hearing from Papyrus what happened last time, Sans gathers up the energy for one last try. He asked him about whether or not he had a choice a long long time ago , and Gaster didn't answer. Now here we are!
A far cry from how debates with Sans used to go . I wonder if Gaster's going to make a decision soon.

I'm so close to tears because of that right now! ALL THE COMICS I'M READING ARE TRYING TO MAKE ME CRY!!! anyways, I'm loving the Handplates Gaster as I usually am but Sans has my thumbs up this time. heh, Gaster needs to give an answer soon but I personally think that the little acts of kindness that Gaster gives to them are enough. Well, enough to give Papyrus hope as well as me.

I love these so much, though I'm kinda new at reading them. So.. Might be a tired question, but why does Gaster sometimes have an actual head, and sometimes have a white digitalized mask?

The "mask" that you refer to is the head of a Lost Soul. The Handplates comics are actually supposed to be a recollection of sorts, and since Gaster fell into the core, he was erased from existence. Because of this, the recollection of him is incomplete, which is why he gets the Lost Soul head. Most of the time, when we see his face, zarla is simply showing it to us because whatever she was trying to show wouldn't get across without showing his face. Does that make sense?

The "mask" is a lost soul head because Gaster is a lost soul. Usually, Zarla only shows his real face in their goofy kinda-non-canon side comics.

That is probably the deepest sans has cut Gaster so far. Which is awesome, 'cause that means he's learning where to hit now. Altho, I think both sans and Gaster ran out of energy a while ago for their old back and forths.

Even with that cloud of non-existence obscuring his face, I can tell Gaster is just about out of energy to keep this up.

Alright. In my opinion, this is the most intense scene so far, atmosphere and dialog-wise. I love it so much.
I already freaked out a little during that moment when Sans' blue eye made light in that darkness, revealing that he's awake. I thought he was about to attack. Then again, Gaster knows that Sans can't beat him, that's why he probably remained calm all that time.
No matter what is happening in your comic, I just cannot see Gaster as the bad guy. I cannot even see him as weak either. I see him simply as a desparate and guilt-tripped person trying to right what he considers the wrong from his past. He's probably hiding a lot of strength and just doesn't know how to use it for good yet. I mean he proved a lot of stamina punching holes in his hands, creating the skelebrothers, and doing the experiments. That's impressive when trained to use for good. But maybe that's just me. I'm on Papyrus' side on that whole topic.
