RP Information: I roleplay paragraph style, and I try to make sure my posts are 2-5 sentences minimum (though I can write much more depending on the situation). You can reach me through Skype most quickly (please send me a note if you'd like my Skype username, and be sure to add your username therein so I know who to accept!), but I can also be reached through notes and deviantART chat. Bear in mind that I can get pretty bogged down with schoolwork as well as other personal matters, so my replies might take a while. Don't be hesitant to remind me if you feel as if I've forgotten our RP!
Trainer
[Independent] [Meticulous] [Quiet] [Tenacious] [Logical]
Katie is, overall, an independent, quiet girl. This doesn't mean that she is shy or anti-social--she simply prefers the silence of work over the chatter of conversation. She will quickly remove herself from situations that are too noisy if at all possible. She is incredibly task oriented and meticulous. She will focus on one thing at a time and make sure that it is working perfectly before moving on. Some people call it perfectionism--Katie calls it getting it right the first time. She likes to feel wanted and productive, hence why she is so work-oriented. She is incredibly tenacious and does not like to leave problems unresolved. She will work tirelessly to find a solution to whatever problem she has, and she does not give up easily--even if that might be the best possible solution.
Katie is also incredibly logical. She analyzes situations from a grounded perspective and keeps her cool where others might lose their heads. However, her logical lenses are easily warped when they are turned on herself. She is always self-critical and tends to bully herself, especially when it comes to intimate social situations. Since she is often by herself in her free time, she has little comprehension of friendship or relationships not tied by blood. She also has a tendency to be abrasive where she doesn't necessarily mean it. Though logical, she doesn't seem to be able to choose her words well. As a result, it has hindered her ability to make close friendships or relationships.

Katie was born in Verot to Emily and George Manning, both of whom had moved to Verot from Johto shortly before her birth. George Manning, a poor ex-Trainer who wanted a better life for his family, began working in the mines to support them. His old Pokémon, a Feraligatr by the name of Gunnar, stayed at home with Katie and her mother, acting as a separate set of hands when George was not there. The early years of Katie's life were simple, but full of love. It was during this time that Katie developed a love for Pokémon, as Gunnar acted as not only a third parental figure, but a cuddly and loveable family pet. As she began to attend school and saw Gunnar less often, she often found herself isolated from other students. Where the other students were hands on learners, Katie would often stand on the sidelines and watch the other students. This led her teachers to believe that she was merely shy and encouraged her to interact with other children with her age. However, the real reason she did not engage her peers was simply because she lacked confidence in her ability to take risks without Gunnar by her side to protect her. She had clung to him all throughout her early life, and the lack of his presence left her feeling unsafe.
Unfortunately, her school would not permit a Pokémon as large as Gunnar around children her age. So for her first few years of schooling, Katie would avoid communicating with her peers, often keeping her head in a book or some other distracting activity. Her parents noticed how unhappy she was in school and became concerned for the impact her adversity to socialization would have later on in her life. So upon her 10th birthday, her father gave her an Egg to watch after during summer vacation. Delighted by the notion of having a new Pokémon to keep her company when Gunnar couldn't, Katie meticulously watched after the Egg, very rarely leaving it alone in case it hatched. When the Egg finally hatched, she was happy to welcome the newborn Togepi, who she named Ellis, into the world. Ellis quickly attached himself to his new owner, but it was clear that he was frightened by Gunnar and her parents. Her parents began to worry that their plan had backfired.
Thankfully, Katie took up her role as Ellis' Trainer rather well. As she would encourage Ellis to try new things, it pulled her out of her shell as well. Oftentimes she would take him outside with Gunnar and have him battle with some of the weak wild Pokémon of the tundra. Her parents, noticing how she had easily worked out the mechanics of battling, offered her a chance to go to a battling school where she could hone her skills and train Ellis to be a strong, reliable Pokémon. Katie accepted eagerly, already picturing her future as a successful, skilled Trainer. When the new school year came into session, she became invested in her studies. She was absolutely dedicated to becoming a professional, competitive Trainer. However, seeing as Ellis was not a very strong Pokémon, Katie unfortunately was beaten quite often by her peers. It got to the point that other students teased her about her weak Pokémon. This devastated Ellis' self confidence, as he no longer felt that he could make Katie proud. For a while, Ellis refused to battle at all because he did not want to disappoint her. Katie began to volunteer less and less when it came to practice battles, as so many students bullied her for her lack of competence in battle.
When her parents noticed this, they became reasonably upset. After all, they wanted their daughter to follow her dream of becoming a competitive Trainer, but without confidence, it seemed like she would give up. Gunnar quickly stepped up to aid Katie and Ellis in battling, often showing Ellis how to properly attack and use the moves he had to his advantage. Ellis' ability in battle began to steadily increase with these private lessons. Soon enough, Katie's confidence began to build up again. Though her peers continually picked on her for her weak Pokémon, she started to prove them wrong in the practice battles. Where other students her age were simply attacking with brute force, Katie used Ellis' strengths to her advantage by using status conditions and stat-reducing moves to beat her opponents. Her logical, analytical viewpoint allowed her to read her frustrated opponents with ease, and for a few years, Katie used her strategy to conquer many of her bullies.
As Katie grew into teenagehood, however, her employment of only one Pokémon became her downfall. Other students had branched out and caught other Pokémon, building up teams. Though she could overwhelm one Pokémon easily, dealing with two others afterwards became increasingly difficult. The ridicule began all over again, and Katie was left frustrated. Her peers' Pokémon had already evolved by at least one stage, while Ellis was still left as a Togepi. Not only had they evolved, but their strong Pokémon now had numbers. One day, Katie, aggravated and upset after losing a match, was trudging home through the snow with Ellis atop her head, when suddenly, she noticed a small figure among the empty tundra. Noticing that it was a relatively weak Pokémon that she could capture easily, Katie and Ellis engaged what she knew to be a Timburr in a battle and captured it. Though she was excited to have another Pokémon, whom she named Leon, the Timburr was clearly unhappy being in her care. He would often purposefully disobey her or destroy her belongings. Frustrated but determined, Katie decided to slowly integrate him into her team. It wasn't long before Leon began to notice how Ellis and Gunnar treated Katie, and though he didn't necessarily respect her in the same way they did, he did admire Gunnar's experience and Ellis' strength.
Eventually, Leon began to listen to and respect Katie, and with Ellis' and Gunnar's help, Leon began to gain experience. Though he was significantly less strong than Ellis, Leon was more than ready to prove himself as a competitor to his Trainer. Using the skills she'd gained from studying and battling, once again, Katie began winning more of the practice matches. Within a few years, she had become a fierce opponent to face, and she had even become a mentor to the younger classes. In her last year of schooling, her father passed down the ownership of Gunnar to her, a privilege Katie was incredibly honored to have bestowed upon her. By this time, Ellis had finally evolved into a Togetic, and Leon adored his Trainer to the point that he followed behind Katie wherever she went. Katie had plans to compete in the league once she was out of school.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck the Mannings. Katie's father, who had worked tirelessly to support his family, had succumbed to brachial plexus injury while working in the mines, which ended up permanently diminishing his reflexes, losing feeling in his right arm, and paralyzing his left arm. As a result, he could no longer work in the mines. This devastated Katie and her mother, and without any income, it would not be long before they would be scraping by with pocket change. Her mother, who could not work outside the house due to a weak immune system, was struggling to find a job to fit her conditions, and it began to take its' toll on Katie and her team. It didn't take long for the Mannings to run out of Pokémon food, and eventually, food for themselves. Though she was incredibly shaken by her father's condition, Katie completed her schooling and dropped her dream of being a competitive Trainer. Rather, she chose to work in a factory and, a year later, that is where Katie remains. Though her parents are upset that she chose to abandon her dream, they are grateful for their brave and caring daughter.
• She owns a pair of noise cancelling headphones.
• She has poor circulation in her fingers, hence why she is often seen wearing gloves.

Gunnar typically behaves like a grumpy old man. As a stark contrast to his Trainer's much younger Pokémon, he is not very energetic and can come off as lazy. However, Katie's other Pokémon know better than this--Gunnar is their much wiser senior and works harder than either one of them. Having been the family pet since before Katie's birth, he acts as a guardian over her and her younger team members. He respects his Trainer greatly, and he is more than willing to lay his life on the line in order to protect her.
Gunnar was George Manning's Pokémon to begin with. In his late teens, George travelled around with Gunnar, who was then a Totodile. Though George was never very good at battling, eventually, the little Totodile began to gain plenty of experience battling and evolved into a Croconaw, and later, a Feraligatr. However, once George settled down with Emily and moved to Verot, he didn't battle nearly as much, leaving Gunnar to be more of a family pet rather than a battling Pokémon. When Katie was born, the Feraligatr took quite a shine to her and would often play with her and prevent the occasional bully from bothering her. As Katie grew and her father's health began to decline, Gunnar was passed down to Katie.

Ellis is, for lack of a better word, a worrywart. He can easily come off as meek and timid, as he often hides behind his stronger, more physical teammates. However, when the going gets tough for his team or for Katie, Ellis will quickly jump into action to defend them. He lacks quite a bit of self confidence, but it certainly doesn't hinder his love for his Trainer and for his team. He adores Katie and admires her tenacity regarding her situation with her father.
Ellis was given to Katie as an Egg by her father for her 10th birthday. As a Togepi, he was very timid and clung to his Trainer. He seemed to be frightened by Katie's other Pokémon at the time, a Feraligatr named Gunnar. However, as Katie battled with him, Ellis began to see that Gunnar was just as determined as he was to make Katie proud, and he admired that. It inspired him to try and battle harder, and though he was weak at first, Katie encouraged him not to give up. His adoration for his Trainer caused him to evolve, and it was then that Ellis began to find his niche in Katie's team.

Leon is the most energetic of all of Katie's Pokémon, and, coincidentally, the youngest. He can easily come off as obnoxious, especially to Gunnar, but he is like Katie in the sense that he simply wants to stay productive. He has a tenacity like no other and will expend every last ounce of energy he has before he gives up. He is Katie's shadow--wherever she goes, he toddles along behind her.
Leon is the first Pokémon Katie caught on her own. He was but a baby who had lost sight of his mother in a fierce blizzard when Katie and Ellis (a Togepi at the time) stumbled across him on their way home from school. Because he was only a baby, he was very easy to capture, and at first, Leon was adverse to his new Trainer. He would disobey her and purposefully destroy her belongings in the hopes that she would release him so he could find his mother. Though Katie was patient and determined to keep him, she was also incredibly stern with Leon at first. Slowly, Leon began to warm up to his Trainer, especially after seeing how much Gunnar and Ellis respected her. Eventually, Leon began to genuinely respect and admire his Trainer. Now, he is practically attached to her at the hip.
