Description
"I have left standing orders for the squad until I return -- Why does mine just say "No."? -- Because it needs to be simplified so that you can apply it to every possible situation."- Exchange between the Lord Commissar and Bodyguard.
A rare position to be filled in the command squad and understandably so, for few can stand beside the Colonel in skill and even fewer are brave enough to weather the storm of blows and shot that inevitably find their superior. Typically assigned the Inquisitor's Stormtroopers who are better trained and equipped for the task, it comes as a surprise that it is a Veteran from the Fellhounds own that now takes upon the role as the Colonel's protector.
An exemplary soldier with a decade of service, Bodyguard carries the gruff and dour nature inherent to many veterans. Despite this he is a father to his men, and carries himself at a high standard, holding high concern for the safety, well being and general dignity of his fellow guardsman, often putting him at odds with his pragmatic commander. Often the two are seen arguing over a tactical map or during combat behind cover, both debating the attrition style tactics applied by the 334th with Bodyguard insisting on alternative methods to negate the extreme loss of life. If whenever the Colonel is convinced of his underling's proposals, he orders Bodyguard to accomplish the task himself, often giving him leave to take command of a squad and any support he needs to accomplish the objective. It is when the Colonel is convinced that only through the blood and suffering of his men can the battle be won that he rebuffs Bodyguard, with the latter exemplifying the loyalty expected from any Guardsman by not insisting further.
While Bodyguard now holds the duty of defending the Colonel from harm, he is under no illusion that death has become more eerily familiar to him. Thus he has eagerly taken to the role of striking and killing first before the foe is capable of taking a shot. However, this has the unintended effect of the Colonel taking the fight even closer to the enemy, trusting in his minder's skill at arms.
