This is beautiful! It looks like a geisha mourning the death of her samurai spouse.
Five stars on this one!

This is the best photograph I've seen in DA so far.
The best.
The comments so far have been saying how this reminds them of a scene in Memoirs of a Geisha. I, however, see this as Kawabata's literature in picture form.
People used to say that he would sometimes spend hours writing a single sentence. I see the same meticulous and care in this shot. The background, the flower, the clothing. Each and every strand of hair gently expresses a different sense of longing in its sway.
Most importantly, the look on her face. It isn't flashy or extreme. It is simple, and yet still so filled with tension and anguish. It perfectly captures genuine emotion. There isn't just a unidimensional expression of extreme sadness or depression. You can see in the softness and complexity of her expression that while there may be an mixture of 10 emotions, all she feels is complete emptiness. The pain and the confusion of this emptiness, it does not overwhelm her, but it stings and it lingers, and it slowly changes who she is, like the old rivers that slowly eat away at canyon walls.
Perhaps I am biased, considering that Kawabata, who captures so much in so little, is my favorite writer of all time. Either way, this is a flawless picture. Absolutely flawless.

One of the saddest, most moving images I've seen lately. It breaks my heart to just look at it. It reminds me of lost love.

this is a beautifull shot and the model is amazing, i like the way the kimono is a bit in the same tones of colours as the background. THe way her look is lost in despair is amazing as well i am honestly amazed. good job.

I think all the effort you went through brought forth a much better picture than you give it credit for. It might not have been as emotional, if she hadn't been as cold.

She reminds me of Tokoyo from the "Tale of the Oki Islands" before she bravely dives into the sea... beautiful with quiet strength.

Yeah, that was definitely a cold day. Remember how shocked the lady at the ramen place was when we came in? I wonder how many people she told about the strange foreigners who decided to go swimming in the freezing cold lake while wearing a kimono. (^o^)
