Description
You tell me that things would changeAnd I believe you
But all around me I see things change
Yesterday's bud is now a blossom
This place I stand was once an empty lot
Look at it now, a small piece of Eden
And that once quiet nest is now alive
Perched atop that tall maple
With the chirping of new life
And I want to ask
Why refuse to change?
But I look at the things I've yet to see
That blossom wilts and dies
They tell me my Eden is worthless
That a condo would be built over it
Dozers are parked by the curb
The maple's cry, the sound of snapping wood
Mother bird is helpless to save her children
From the chainsaws of economy
Your name gets caught in my throat
And I breathe it back in
But the sun will rise again
That blossom is a perennial
A luxury condo does not lack gardens
Plus it has a pool
But mother bird will never have her babies back
The cruelty, the injustice
I nearly forget this is life
A flower comes not without a seed
And a flower comes not without death
I realize now what this is about
That I would watch it all happen
With you by my side
