Most portraits are shot in 'portrait' mode which is why this photograph captured my attention.
The additional space on her left hand side allows her to look into or towards something creating a more pleasing view for the spectator.
Had this portrait been shown in colour then I think it would have lost an important element and that is why I believe B&W lends itself so well here.
Fantastic lighting, wonderful tonal range and a well executed portrait.
