Description As I'm sure some have seen, I am doing my own reboot of Filmation's She-Ra, I started back in 2016, just before the announcement from Netflix that Dreamworks was doing a reboot for them, so I only continued with my own periodically.... however, after actually watching the new She-Ra when it finally came out, I was sorely underwhelmed! Asides from a slight improvement on the animation front, overall, the entire series was bland as shite, writing was terrible, flip-flopping personalities, worse than dumb dialogue and characters who look like they ate the previous She-Ra characters, completely unrealistic, which they told us realism was what they were aiming for.

So, as I was extremely disappoint, I am going to get more underway with my own reboot, the Adora to She-Ra transformation sequence animation is underway, I'll be able to put that up later this new year, but for now, I wanted to introduce another character I have revamped... Glimmer! Colour shading and background are going to be redone at a later date, I did it quickly so I could post it here looking halfway decent! Hope you like!!

Well I'm late to the part here but nicely done.

Quite amazonic redesign of her. But it is certainly better than the reboot's version

I saw the clips of the reboot and could barely stomach it down. It was underwhelming and was more like an appraisal to mediocrity with lazy writing, lack of worldbuilding, and completely unrealistic and unrelatable characters, even for a cartoon. The problem with Noelle Stevenson and her tumblrites writers are that their idea of realism correlates to gender and racial politics, believing that designing women with curves and breasts are sexist and patriarchal and that drawing without them is "female empowerment", despite that is makes them look androgynous and even more generic. It's also the reason why the reboot was bad, caring for "agenda" and not "story" as a majority of people are not as obsessed with identity politics as they are.

..."overall, the entire series was bland as shite, writing was terrible, flip-flopping personalities, worse than dumb dialogue and characters who look like they ate the previous She-Ra characters, completely unrealistic, which they told us realism was what they were aiming for." - did you actually watch the series?

The dialogue isn't nearly "worse than dumb" - it just mixes in humor, and isn't always serious.

Again, from what I saw you like several cartoons which did similar things, maybe to an even greater degree, like Totally Spies and Kim Possible.  Or even many 80s shows themselves, if maybe in a bit different way.

I don't remember if the creators stated the characters are looking realistic, or the fans who liked the show did, as well as reviews and other pages like tv tropes - but the realistic part, was about characters having various body builds, not the style being somehow super realistic. Seeing it's more anime style, it's kinda deliberately less realistic in some ways...

If it was simply mixing in humour to not sound so serious all the time, I could forgive that, but it's almost non-stop, as if they were trying to be funny with every single line spoken, and it just doesn't work, only 3 times were any of the jokes funny enough to warrant a laugh.

However it's not simply the humour in the dialogue that makes it worse than dumb,it's what is being said that makes the dialogue dumb, to a point where it makes the actual characters appear dumb.

The other shows did it better though and felt more natural, plus actually fit the way the shows operated, here it's more along the lines of, 'Hey, let's have the characters talk silly because our audience are a bunch of dumb kids who will laugh at anything that sounds stupid!', rather than crafting it to sell a scene, a moment or to lighten things up. It just doesn't work!

Not super realistic, this is supposed to be a fantasy show after all, but she did say in several interviews that she didn't want the characters to go out in skinnies and be more suited up with protective clothing, armour etc. Though yes, a lot of the defenders of the designs latched onto that just a little too much, forgetting that it was a fantasy show, that said, Spartans, if we are to believe historical imagery, actually fought their battles butt naked... so possibly in the next season 😂

And various body types, hmm.... I can see that, but none of it really fit, it mainly felt forced, almost as if they were following the guide to designing a character to appeal to a Tumblr user. Plus with Spinnerella.... ultra stupid!

They don't try to "funny with every single line spoken" (If anything, Totally Spies you apparently also like, does arguably fit more - and I don't say though it's a bad thing, I like that show) , and the characters don't say just "dumb things and sound dumb". Especially seeing there being serious moments, like with Entrapta's seeming death, pretty much all of Shadow Weaver stuff etc.
Actually lot's of people liked the humor (and considered it well done), and considered the show well written, including people who don't like that much SJWs or tumblr culture:

Hi folks, its been a while since I write one of these, so double feature:
Okay as I mentioned in my Dragon Prince and Hilda reviews, Netflix is killing it with there animation features and the streak con

Which is shown with how on Rotten Tomatoes and IMBD, She-Ra has pretty good scores (ie from fans), despite the vote bombing:
www.imdb.com/title/tt7745956/
www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/she_…

Inserting a bit more realism, especially with body proportions/body build characters have, isn't something bad too.

Especially seeing female characters are actually under presented in terms of body shapes - there are visibly more non perfectly in shape (or lanky) male characters, who are portrayed as athletic and able in a confrontation, ie the acrofatic trope for example:
tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php…

(And as noted there, this actually works up to a level at least, in real life - The main reason fat people can be agile is because they rely on fast-twitch anaerobic muscles. This is why many of the early baseball heroes like Babe Ruth were a bit on the pudgy side. They didn't need endurance, just a quick burst of speed to get to first base. Or other real life examples described there, like James "Lights Out" Toney or Roman legionaries, who actually deliberately fattened themselves up to a level, to have an additional protective layer of fat. Or Roman Gladiators.)

Seeing though your reaction to Spinnerella, you calling her design "ultra stupid" for being overweight (despite her mostly or entirely using her magic too), makes it come of you are against at all presentations of less than slim female characters in cartoons, despite you know, such people existing. And it's kinda ridiculous seeing how so far, Spinnerella had a minor role.

Sorry, but to me, it comes of a lot of your opinions, especially on writing, come of from a bias, or being overly negative - like you nitpicking over Catra's tail, despite it actually being in a realistic position, this placement being actually used in anime, and show addressing the sitting issue.

Dunno, I would myself advice you to rewatch She-Ra or watch the series whole (as your comments make it seem you either didn't really see the whole season proper, and possibly just parts, or with people "reviewing" it.), without being so preemptively negatively biased - as from what I saw in your gallery, you could very well like it them.

Or maybe not. And you can also ignore my advice - it's after all, your choice.

Having a character who's power is to produce wind and have that character be extremely overweight, is a punch in the face to all fat people, that is why her design is ultra stupid.

Entrapta's death, the one that makes them believe that the reason it happened was because they were together.... stupid fucks! The reason was because they were being a bunch of dicks from start to finish of the mission, 'I wanna be a knife' ,'I should be the perfume', 'Ooo look at this' 'Look at my flamboyance', it happened bevause they were being morons, not because they were together.

All the characters were useless, even the Horde, the only reason it seems that they've managed as much as they have, is because they were ever so slightly more organised.

I am editing the whole series to try and make it seem a bit better than mediocre! But after that, I am done with the DreamWorks She-Ra, it sucks, people need to wake up and find a show that actually does what this one is pretending to provide!

Again, you seem to be incredibly negative - there is a concept of powers, contrasting or clashing with their users in fiction, most notably the Bad Powers, Good people trope and it's sister trope Good Powers, Bad People ,or even things like a calm and even "cold" in disposition fire user.

And Spinnerella even isn't  really "extremely overweight" - not to mention, you still are worked up over the design of one fairly minor character. You are aware of that?

Sorry, it really starts to come to me as if you had something against overweight women, but you might be just very negatively biased, to the point of again, making up supposed flaws, like with Catra tail placement (with your take being visibly more anatomically incorrect as a result).

Again, it wasn't the case with Entrapta "death", and the characters, especially the Horde, can be competent  (and the mistakes they do, are quite often intentional on the writers part, to have characters grow from them) - except Shadow Weaver, but she is meant to be portrayed as incompetent, due to her obsession with gaining back Adora in the Horde, which is why Hordak demoted her in the end. catra is even praised as well written, and over time becoming more and more competent, while she grows more villainous. Again, with this, and other stuff I mentioned before, I kinda wonder if you even really watched the series, or just clips, and also quite negatively biased reaction videos or summaries...

But I feel my words are lost on you, and I won't even consider even slightly reconsidering your views on She-Ra - so with this I will end our conversation - and hope we will agree more in a future discussion.

I am overweight, and I would feel the same way even if Spinnerella was gender swapped and now a male! You do not make a character who's power is to produce wind overweight! And yes, she is minor, so minor there's no point to her or Nettossa's existence in this series, they are there, simply for pandering purposes!

Growing is fine, but that doesn't mean they have to be ultra stupid in the first place! Hordak is supposed to be a commander in this, yet he's hardly ever around and when he is, he is shown to be a terrible commander, just like all the princesses and queens are shown to be terrible rulers.

Catra is pretty much the only character with any real development, but well written? No, mediocre at best, this whole show is at best, mediocre! Waiting over 30 years to see a new series done well, only to be given something that even Sanctuary would be disappointed with! And even if it wasn't for the wait, I would still consider it to be mediocre shite!

And it's ironically amazing that Mattel is doing books and toys of the original She-ra, and want nothing to do with the Netflix tumblr disaster they call 'She-ra'.

yeah. they know that neflix version stinks with SJW junk. so they stuck with the original looks in hopes that the series will get real justice like how He-man got in the 2000 version. maybe even give you a shot in remaking He-man/She-ra, if they see your awesome work.

I doubt I'll get a call, but here's to hoping that when Mattell reclaims the licence to She-Ra, they'll give us something like 200X!
