Description “This is all the noms we have left, honey…” Ran opens the mangled fridge and pulls out a bowl of homemade fried rice, handing it to Klara. “Eat up.”

“YAY!!” Klara holds the bowl over her head spinning. “Thank you Ms. Ran!!”

Ran smiles as the fox brings the food to the table where her brother is sitting. “No problem, baby…”

“Yeah, Ms. Ran…” Aaron mumbles. “Thanks for kicking my ball sack into the next district…”

Luckily, Ran ignores the dragon’s sarcasm and reviews Marx’s datascroll. “Hmm… It would be quite difficult to get to Kittim… Why would Ki go there? Not to mention he might be traveling by boat considering he has Jacov and Hanoi…”

Aaron sighs. “I know how he’ll get there.” He beacons for Ran to follow him outside onto the back patio, triying to forge himself a light dagger as he does so.

The dragon and cat walk out onto the patio and close the door. “Okay, Aaron. How?” Ran asks in an angry voice.

Aaron looks up into the sky and finds the faint outline of the new moon. “He’s going to shadow jump…”

“Comrade…” Jacov hands Kiaran a freshly forged knife. “You are sure this vill vork?”

Hanoi quickly checks Kiaran’s vitals on his datascroll and shivers. “Yeah, Ki… How many times have you done this?”

Kiaran quickly slits both his palms and tosses the knife back to Jacov. “Once. And I almost died.”

Jacov catches the knife and looks at Hanoi worriedly. “So ve vill all be in process of dying?”

Kiaran ignores him and faces a nearby wall. Looking up, he catches a glimpse of the faint outline of the new moon. “Showtime…” He thinks to himself. Facing the wall again, he closes his eyes and focuses. Over his head, his midnight-blue halo flares to life. Suddenly, shadows start oozing towards the wall in front of the dragon and start combining into a pure dark mass.

“Ehh… Jacov feels dat this is not safe and vill prefer boat to Kittim…” the bear stands and moves to interrupt Kiaran.

Suddenly, Kiaran places his hands on the concentrated shadow and gasps. “Go!! Go now!!”

Jacov quickly backs up. “Jacov feels safe avay from dark hole of death!!”

Kiaran shouts in pain, the portal starting to waver. “HURRY IT UP, DAMNIT!!”

Hanoi quickly jumps through the portal. “Jacov, c’mon!! Ki’s gonna go into shock if he doesn’t stop soon!!”

Jacov quickly glances at Ki. The dragon’s lips are cracked to reveal his teeth grinding. At the same time, blood starts dripping from his lips and nostrils. “Jacov!!” Kiaran grunts. “Get that fat ass moving!!”

Jacov hesitates before suddenly being yanked into the portal by an unknown force. “VHAT THE FU—” Jacov disappears into the portal and Kiaran smiles.

“Thanks, guys… You’ll be safe now…” The dragon collapses and the shadow portal starts to shatter.

Hanoi and Jacov quickly look through the portal to see Kiaran collapse. “No!!” The two quickly try to make it back through but the portal closes up on them, leaving them stranded on the island of Kittim…

“WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE SHADOW JUMPED!?” Ran starts beating harmlessly on Aaron’s chestpiece. “HE CAN’T SHADOW JUMP!! HE NEVER SHOWED ME THAT!!”

Aaron grabs Ran’s shoulders and steadies her. “Keep it down, fool! The children will hear you... And Kiaran never told you he could shadow jump because he did it only once before… Almost killed himself too, the idiot…”

Ran tears Aaron’s arms off her shoulders and goes back to beating on Aaron’s chest. Tears slowly stream down her face and her eyes are shut tight. “Gabeh! Gabeh! Gabeh!”

The dragon looks at Ran and stops her again. “Hey. Listen carefully and quit whining.” Aaron shakes Ran gently to emphasize his point. “I know my brother. He wouldn’t just retreat like this. He’s too headstrong. He most likely tossed his bandit buddies into the portal before shutting them in. Safer for them to be away from his fight.”

Ran doesn’t look at Aaron. She backs up and crosses her arms in front of her stomach. “How would you know for sure?”

Aaron sighs, flicking his tail. “I don’t know for sure… I can only speculate… He has either saved his two friends and left himself completely vulnerable, bought himself some time by joining them on Kittim, or they all died in transit through the jump.”

The cat shuffles her feet. “And you know they haven’t died because…?”

The dragon flicks his tail as he walks back inside. “Because you’re not screaming how stupid he is for dying at the sky yet…”

Klara and Marx look up from their small meal of salmon fried rice. “Mithter Aathon?” Klara says, her mout full of food. “What did you and Mith Ran talk about?”

Marx swallows and bops his twin sister on the nose. “Swallow your food before you speak, Klair…”

Aaron glares down menacingly at the two. “We were discussing something that does not concern you, children…”

Klara stands quickly and tries to size up the large dragon, but even on her tiptoes she only comes up to about mid-stomach to the Shock Trooper. “Yes it does concern me!! We’re gonna save Mr. Kiaran, you big fat meanie!!”

The dragon raises an eye ridge, obviously not amused at the fox-girl’s act of bravery. “Then you tell me. Is Mr. Kiaran dead?”

Marx stands quickly and glares up at Aaron. “You better not—”

“NO!” Klara says confidently, interrupting her brother. “MR. KIARAN IS NOT DEAD!!”

Aaron and Marx, surprised, both look at Klara. “H-How do you know?” Aaron asks, kneeling down to eye level with the girl.

Klara turns up her snout, crossing her arms and closing her eyes. “Because. He hasn’t said goodbye yet.”

Aaron opens his mouth to say something but Ran suddenly walks in. “Mr. Kiaran hasn’t said goodbye yet, huh?”

Klara quickly runs over to Ran and hugs the cat from behind. Ran suddenly feels Klara shivering behind her and she turns to see Klara tearing up quietly. “Mr. Kiaran’s not dead, Ms. Ran…” she whispers.

Ran wipes Klara’s tears away and hugs the fox. “I know, hun… That’s because Mr. Kiaran doesn’t leave without saying goodbye…”
