    Amber and Layla made it to their classroom and took their seats near the back of the classroom close to the windows. Layla almost always sat directly in front of Amber for the years that they ended up in the same classroom. Layla turned her seat to face Amber for a bit of small talk before homeroom started.
    "I can't believe you forgot that Blake was in the same classroom as us," Amber was saying, stupefied that Layla didn't remember their first day of school where the entire class introduced one another.
    "Well you know I don't bother with things like that," Layla defended herself. She looked around the classroom and noticed Blake enter and take her seat just three seats across from her. The girl was very mysterious to Layla, from finding her in an alley by some coincidence to being in the same classroom as her. It made her wonder what was going on in the mind of Cor Fortium High's Girl Crush.

    Blake, on the other hand, was already mentally exhausted. Just before entering the classroom, she had to settle a fight caused by one of her good friends, Daniel, who was well-known for being a gentleman of the school. Quite unaware of her own influence on the student body, she walked off with Daniel towards the principal's office to report the incident when she and Daniel were stopped by a horde of fan-girls.
    "Again? it's so early in the morning for this," Blake grumbled as the horde rushed over to her and Daniel in a crazed stampede.
    "Should we book it?" Daniel asked a bit nervously. Just having had so much attention this morning, Daniel was quite ready to have a calm morning.
    "Yeah, let's go," Blake answered quickly, turning and dashing towards the very entrance they came from. The chase had gone on for a good five minutes without breaks until Blake had separated from Daniel entirely. I think I finally lost them, she thought after catching her breath, too bad I don't want to help Daniel out just yet. Blake composed herself once more and headed back towards her classroom when she heard a scared cry coming from the stairs she had just passed. Fearing something bad, Blake ran towards the stairs and gasped in surprise. Just as she feared, Blake found a girl with her blazer and blouse torn wide open, exposing the poor girl. Her offenders were no where to be found. Blake immediately flew down the stairs whilst taking off her own blazer.

    "Hey! Are you okay?! What happened?!" Blake fired questions without rest as she covered up the poor girl. She didn't answer and kept sobbing. Blake sighed; she knew that she wasn't going to get answers anyway.
    "Are you hurt anywhere? Nod your head for yes and shake your head for no," Blake asked, this time with a more gentle tone. The girl shook her head, much to Blake's relief. I can't let her be seen like this, Blake thought to herself as she glanced over the condition of the crying victim, I'd best get her to the principal and fast.
    "Hey," Blake tapped the girl to gain her attention, "Can you stand? I'll help you to the principal's office to get you fixed up, okay?" The girl sniffled, nodding as Blake helped her to her feet. Blake helped as the girl began to button up her blazer and picked up the girl's torn uniform as well before heading for the principal's office once more. Thankfully, this time around Blake managed to make it there without any incidences and entered the principal's office with the crying girl huddled closely next to her. Once the two girls got through the doors, one of the staff members jumped out of her seat and rushed towards them.
    "Oh goodness! What happened here?! Blake?" the staff member asked quickly.
    "I'm not sure myself, but I found her near the stairs with her uniform torn up," Blake quickly and calmly explained, "I gave her my blazer for now, but she needs to see the principal as soon as possible so that everyone is aware. I also need to talk to her about an earlier incident."
    "Of course, I'll get her now," the staff member replied quickly, heading straight for the back of the office. Moments later, the principal emerged from her office with a concerned look on her face.
    "I heard everything, Blake. Let's talk in my office, shall we?" the principal didn't waste anytime and rushed both girls into her office.
    "Thank you, Mrs. Lymund," Blake thanked her just as they entered the room. The entire session lasted for ten minutes before Mrs. Lymund excused Blake. The girl remained inside to calm herself and to be excused from school for good reason.

    Homeroom and the rest of the morning classes flew by until lunch time finally arrived. Layla and Amber quickly made their way to the cafeteria to get their food before heading out to the enter statue where they usually ate together.
    "Man, to think we have a quiz on math in two days," Amber grumbled as she took a bite of a red apple, "That's just horrible."
    "You're only complaining because you would rather not do math at all," Layla retorted laughing, "I'm pretty sure that you would be much happier about life if math never existed."
    "Ah, you know me well, sweetheart," Amber smiled sweetly.
    "Oh? I never knew you two were that close," a voice spoke up in amusement. Both Layla and Amber jumped at the sudden comment as Blake began to laugh. Amber just left her mouth agape after finding Blake standing in front of them, so Layla spoke up instead.
    "Oh hi Blake," Layla greeted with a smile, "Don't mind Amber. She's like this whenever you're mentioned nowadays, Ms. Girl Crush."
    "Is that so? That would make sense then," Blake mused, surprisingly able to understand, "Anyway, I just wanted to come by and check on how you were doing."
    "I've been well, thanks for your concern," Layla gave Blake a sweet smile, "Do you want to each lunch with us?" Amber's eyes nearly popped out of her skull when Layla asked, and she nearly stopped breathing entirely when Blake agreed. It was so bad, in fact, that Amber was pretty much forgotten as Blake and Layla talked about what happened during the weekend and acted as if they were friends for awhile.
    "Well, I'm glad you're doing much better than when I first met you," Blake commented.
    "Yeah, thanks to you," Layla thanked Blake in return, "If you didn't find me that night, I may have not been here."
    "Oh stop it," Blake said modestly. Her mood turned serious as she continued, "Do you mind telling me what happened to you last night?" Layla's smile from earlier faded as she slowly recalled those horrific memories. She sighed and nodded, proceeding to recount how everything started.

    "Well, I'm going to head to bed first, okay," Amber was saying the night of the incident. Layla made a sound of acknowledgement as Amber disappeared into the bedroom. She stayed up a bit longer to finish up some homework when she heard a loud noise coming from outside of her room. Layla paused and didn't dare to breathe for awhile in the silence that followed. A few more seconds passed, and then there was a sudden knock on the door. Who's trying to find us at this hour, Layla wondered as she approached the door. Maybe it's just one of the neighbors, she figured dismissively as she opened the door. To her surprise, she didn't see anyone or anything outside of her door. A sudden chill ran down her spine as she quickly closed the door and found it difficult. Looking down, she noticed a small black figure holding the door open. It was about the size of a toddler, with white holes for eyes and sharp teeth curved into a creepy smile. What the hell, Layla screamed mentally. Not wanting any trouble, she let go of the door and began backing away from the creature. Its gaze merely followed her every move. Layla felt as if she was being preyed upon. Amber's still in the room, Layla thought quickly, rushing straight to the door. The little monster proved quicker, as it suddenly appeared in front of Layla's face, swiping at her chest. Layla had not changed out of her uniform yet, and she gasped in fear and frustration as her expensive school blazer and blouse were ripped by the monster's inhuman claws.
    "What are you?" Layla asked the monster incredulously. The monster did not reply, instead swiping at her again. Layla bolted out of her room as quick as she could, possibly leaving a mess in the living room. She didn't care; she just wanted to get away from that... thing. She bolted for the front door and rushed outside into the pouring rain. It was stormy that night, but that didn't stop her from running for her life as the monster chased after her. It was fast despite the harsh winds and stinging rain. Layla feared for her life, thinking that she was going to die that night.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    "My god, that sounds horrible," Amber was the first to speak up after Layla's recounting of that night. During Layla's telling of the story, Amber had sobered up and listened intently to what had happened to her friend that night as she was fast asleep. She remembered how she felt Saturday morning as she awoke to find the living room completely trashed and the front door left ajar. It looked like the scene of a crime and it scared Amber a lot. With Layla not in her bed, Amber had feared for the worst. She forced herself to assume that Layla had plans for the weekend and that nothing bad happened. To hear the story of what happened made her heart sink for the very fact that she couldn't help Layla during her best friend's time of need. Blake nodded in understanding to the story, taking in all the details. The description that Layla gave was definitely one of an Ire. It was starting to look like Layla may have been the Guardian that she was meant to partner up with. I can't be so sure, Blake reminded herself, I need more information but Amber's still here. Blake decided for herself that now wasn't a good time to press on the situation, considering how traumatizing it must have been for Layla.
    "Have you seen those kinds of things before Friday night?" Blake asked carefully. Layla shook her head.
    "It was the first time I had ever seen one. It was creepy," she continued, "I'm just thankful Amber wasn't awake to see it."
    "I would have liked to have been some help to you, girl," Amber spoke up, sulking a little from feeling useless. Blake was about to say something when the bell rang for the end of lunch break.
    "We'd best be heading back," Blake said instead, standing up and extending her hands to both Layla and Amber. Layla shyly took Blake's hand and was pulled up first as Amber went beet red and breathless when Blake helped her up. Blake flashed both girls a smile, which made Amber squeal a bit inside from sheer happiness.
    "Then let's get going, shall we?" Blake asked them, walking off towards the school. Layla silently followed suit but stopped when she noticed Amber still standing where they were looking rather dazed.
    "Amber? Let's go," Layla called out to her friend. Amber skipped merrily over to her best friend's side, letting out a sigh of ecstasy.
    "Thank the Lord that you know Blake," Amber breathed, giddy from holding Blake's hand for those very moments, "I've been blessed to have held her hand."
    "Oh my god," Layla face-palmed as she dragged Amber back to their classroom for afternoon classes.
