For the next few days, Blake made it a habit to visit Weiss at the hospital. Most of the time, Amber and Layla could go with her, but Blake was committed to visit and talk with her everyday. Many of the students in class always questioned about Weiss and Blake's whereabouts, and Layla found herself blessed that no one had bothered to ask the only two people who had the answers to their questions. After all, how on Earth were you supposed to explain to the entire student body that you were fighting monsters and just so happened to find her passed out in the aftermath and that now she was currently recovering in the hospital while Blake just so happened to recognize her as someone she knew a long time ago? Just thinking about that made her shiver. Blake found it soothing to see her long lost friend, and the two of them always talked for hours until visitor hours were up. Amber and Layla had never seen Blake look so calm and relaxed before, not even over their school breaks. They made it a point to become friends with Weiss as well, finding that she was one of the sweetest girls they had ever come across. She was very fragile and constantly ill, but she was very sweet and kind to those around her. Of course, much to their dismay, she was constantly at the forefront of bullies in her class, which happened to be the same class that former classmate Aria used to be in. And so, with that knowledge in their minds, they made it a point to visit her in her classroom. And boy were they shocked.
"Why'd you even come back here? Shouldn't you be sleeping with seven dwarves right about now, Snow White?" Amber saw one girl sneer at her. Weiss didn't retaliate, instead opting to open up a book and read as three classmates began to berate her. It was recess at the time, so Amber and Layla wanted to hang out with her. They didn't expect to see her surrounded by students who did nothing but put her down, all the while she remained silent and took it. The other classmates surrounding them looked rather uncomfortable with the situation, and Amber found it appalling that no one came to Weiss' aid.
"You're just gonna let this slide? Why isn't anyone getting the teachers or something?" Amber nudged one of the bystanders.
"And mess with 'that' Queenie? As if. I don't want anything to do with her at all," the boy quickly dismissed, scurrying off to somewhere else. Amber and Layla exchanged looks briefly and nodded in understanding all at once. Layla went back to their classroom to get Blake while Amber went ahead and approached the bullies.
"Hey, Queenie, was it? Leave her alone she just got out of the hospital," Amber called out, standing between the girls and Weiss. Queenie glanced Amber over and scoffed.
"And who are you? Some third-rate prostitute? Get out of my way," she snapped condescendingly, "I have to teach this girl who's better."
"Obviously not you, that's for sure," Amber calmly retorted, taking a step forward. Queenie backed off slightly, her entourage of two taking another look at Amber. The class was beginning to grow louder as murmurs began to rise from the crowd surrounding them. Layla brought Blake into the classroom in time to witness everything else.
"I don't think you know who I am, you filthy dog," Queenie spat, glaring daggers into Amber, "I am the one who can even make Girl Crush Blake go crazy for me if I wanted to. The fact that Blake is even talking to this witch is a mystery to me. Ugh, I don't even want to know what kind of magic she used to get Blake to stand her." Layla's eyes widened at the insult and looked to Blake nervously. To her surprise, Blake held an amused look, calmly approaching Queenie from behind as she continued her tirade, signalling to Amber and Weiss to stay quiet.
"The two of you are worthless. You'll probably have more meaning to your lives serving me like the rest of the school," Queenie fired off insult after insult, "Even Blake will go down on both knees to beg me to let her spend time with me. Since you don't know your worth, why don't you and her just off yourselves before your loser disease gets spread to me?"
"Ah, I see. I need to get down on both my knees to beg just to spend time with you. Cute," Blake deadpanned behind Queenie. The girl yelped in surprise and slowly turned around to see an amused Blake standing tall before her, arms crossed. She didn't even look mad; the creepy smile that remained plastered on her face seemed to look much worse.
"Is this how you choose to treat an old friend of mine after she just returned from the hospital? I see you don't quite understand a few things," Blake went on, keeping her composure in check. Amber felt a chill down her spine; this was the same maddening feeling she had right before Blake had gone berserk. She made her way over to Layla and took her friend's hand, giving it a squeeze to get the girl's attention. With Layla's focus to her, she tugged her closer in a protective manner, causing Layla's eyes to widen in surprise.
"This is the same feeling I felt right before Blake went berserk," Amber explained quietly for her actions. Layla gulped. She figured as much, trying to reach for her bag to get out her gear. Unfortunately, since they were still in school, her bag was left at her desk in their classroom. This thought made her feel extremely vulnerable, just like that fateful night that Blake found her.
"I would like for you to apologize to her, but I guess that's beneath you as well," Blake continued her sarcastic speech, eyes drilling daggers into Queenie's terrified ones, "She doesn't need to hear you speak anymore. Any word you spit out is as poisonous as any other. Since that would be the case, how about you just do what you should and keep to yourself. Maybe that way, by staying silent, your poison will kill you off instead." Blake's words were cold and calculated. This was extremely different from the way she usually portrayed herself to the students of Cor Fortium. The students all murmured their surprise at the type of defense she displayed for Weiss, and the girl couldn't have cared less. Queenie did as she was told and kept to herself knowing that anything she said now would only dig her grave deeper than it already had. Every student at Cor Fortium knew of Blake's protective nature, and this type of berating from her, although extremely rare, fit right into her reputation. After Queenie and her entourage dismissed herself, the class continued on with its normal buzz, thankful that the entire incident was now solved. Both Amber and Layla shared sighs of relief upon knowing that they wouldn't have to deal with a berserk Blake in such an inconvenient place. Blake took a few breaths to check her emotions before looking to Weiss, who held a look of mild amusement and gratefulness towards the Knight.
"Seems the school's rumors were true after all," Weiss commented in her amusement. Blake chuckled for a bit, scratching the back of her head in slight embarrassment.
"Yeah, although she's usually a bit more tactful about it," Amber added lightheartedly, making her way over to Weiss, "Anyway, you alright?" Weiss gave a light nod. Amber smiled, "Good. That's good to hear." Layla shared her friend's sentiment, offering a smile as well. Weiss giggled as she looked over Blake and the other two. She felt a sense of ease that she hadn't felt in years. The last time she had felt this way was... Was... Weiss' smile faded. When was the last time she felt such a sense of security and satisfaction? She tried to remember, but found it rather impossible. She tried to search her mind once more for the answer, but only ended up clutching her head in pain. Blake quickly knelt down to match Weiss' eye level, placing a hand on the girl's shoulder to steady her. Amber and Layla, eyes wide, looked ready to run out of the classroom to get a nurse. Blake stayed there and comforted the girl as spectators began to gather around Weiss. Amber quickly looked to Layla, both silently working together to give the two girls behind them some space from curious eyes from interrupting them. Weiss slowly regained her composure, opening her eyes to see a very worried Blake staring back at her. A silent question came with that look. Weiss felt a very nostalgic sense of concern and worry that Blake had once shown her before, so long in the past. She nodded in response, reassuring Blake that she was alright. Blake smiles sweetly back at her and stands up again, looking back to Amber and Layla to relay that same reassurance. The crowd dispersed again as the bell rang, sending Blake and the others back to their class. Weiss watched them go with a smile. She decided to get to know them better again.
She went to see them after school, popping her head into the classroom and searching around. Blake noticed her immediately and gave a smile, standing from the crowd of students around her to make her way over. Layla and Amber went to approach her as well with the same smile on their faces.
"Where do you live? Maybe we can take you home?" Weiss recalled Layla asking politely. She responded that the hospital was now her temporary home, and that she didn't quite recall whether or not she had a home to begin with. It was a strange response, but Blake found it unsurprising. Weiss did say that she couldn't recall anything of the past too well; her home during the time she had been separate from Blake must have been included.
"If that's the case, you can come stay at the dorms, if you'd like?" Amber offered, "It's a minute from the campus and Layla and I can help fill some paperwork to get you a room. You might have a roommate though but me and Layla will be close by if you need us."
"Yeah, you'll know we're back if you hear Amber screaming her head off throughout the building," Layla added, earning a playful slap from the aforementioned screamer. Blake kept silent for awhile, as if thinking about something. So much so that Amber managed to sneak behind her and jab her right in the stomach, flexing her fingers in an attempt to tickle her. All Blake really managed was to jump at the sudden contact, but looked unamused when Amber kept trying to tickle her.
"Something on your mind?" Amber questioned after realizing Blake wasn't ticklish. Blake nodded slightly, but didn't bother to speak. I should probably talk to Weiss about it first, Blake figured to herself. She found that it was the best option to ask about it. After all, she had no reservations about it at all, and she figured Maria and Ryne would be okay with it so long as she was the one solely responsible.
"Uh, Earth to Blake? Might I get a verbal answer?" Amber prodded, poking Blake to no avail. Blake snapped out of her reverie and focused her attention to Weiss, who looked over to her with questioning baby blues staring back at sharp amber.
"If you'd like, I can move into the dorms with you," Blake finally spoke up. Amber and Layla looked rather surprised while Weiss' face lit up.
"You don't already? Then yes! That would be wonderful!" Weiss answered excitedly. Blake flashed a smile and looked over at her two friends with gaping mouths.
"What? I find it much more convenient since it's just a minute from school," Blake told them simply, "I'll talk to Maria about it and work something out. It's better this way, actually."
"Well, I mean yeah but," Amber was the first to speak, albeit stumbling over most of her words. Layla recovered just as fast, but voted to remain silent for now, giving Blake a nod of approval.
"Then it's settled. I'll go and get started on the paperwork. See you guys later," Blake concluded, walking back towards the school. She stopped shortly afterwards and returned to the group for a bit, "What do we do about now?"
"I'm still not technically free from the hospital yet, so I'll stay there for a bit," Weiss replied, "I should be find until that paperwork gets finalized. Let's exchange contacts for now so that if you need any of my info we can be in touch." Weiss ended up exchanging contacts with Amber and Layla as well, but she didn't mind it. Those two were so nice to her despite not knowing her so much anyway; that much courtesy was the least she felt she could do in return.
