Layla and Amber reeled in shock while seated at their couch as Blake and Weiss explained the situation at school. They had gone to school early in the morning to help Weiss retrieve some of the homework she had to make up from her absence at school, so when they noticed police cars surrounding the campus they were quite confused. Just like many of the other students who had arrived early, police were slowly sending them all back home to their families. Blake approached one of the teachers talking to a policeman about the situation.
"They say that they found a mutilated body laying right in front of the door to our homeroom," Blake was explaining, "They had just identified the body to be Melody. Weiss and I couldn't believe it, so we snuck around behind the school to check it out ourselves." Weiss shuddered at the memory, "The body was almost unrecognizable, and the police have been saying that they have no idea what or who could have caused it. But Blake and I can't tell if it really was Melody. That's how bad it was." Layla and Amber exchanged nervous looks. They knew exactly how powerful and scary Melody could be, but if what Blake and Weiss were saying was true... that was a scary thought.
"But even you guys said that you couldn't recognize the body," Amber voiced a thought, "How'd you guys hear that it was Melody?"
"Police did a DNA test when they found it late last night after someone had complained about a weird smell coming from campus," Weiss explained, clutching closer to Blake. The Knight nodded in confirmation.
"Then what could it be?" Layla began to wonder aloud, "I highly doubt that it would be a serial killer if the victim is Melody. She's scary smart, and an... aura-user..."
"Layla?" Amber asked the girl in confusion as she trailed off her words. Blake seemed to take to understanding immediately as she snapped her fingers in realization.
"Oh my god why didn't I think of that before," Blake muttered to herself. Weiss remained confused, but at the very least Amber finally realized what was going on, making an O with her mouth. All three girls had recalled what had happened so many months earlier with Janice and her roommate, a person who died in a similar manner.
"It's Sebastian. It has to be," Blake said aloud, looking to Amber and Layla. The other two nodded in agreement as Weiss stood stupified in between them, "Um, mind telling me what's going on?"
Blake relayed Janice's incident with Weiss to catch her up to speed as Layla and Amber went into their bedroom with the excuse to change out of their school uniforms. Amber closed the door behind her, looking concerned towards Layla. She recalled how Layla handled gore. She only kept a front because of how serious the situation was, but right now in this room, Amber looked on as she watched Layla's bravado unfurl before her, melting into a pile of tears and sobs. Amber felt her heart shatter as she watched Layla's body shake violently in fear, quickly choosing to make her way over and just embrace Layla in a protective hug. Layla was usually strong-willed. However, gore was one of the things that she never got over. Even after every Ire horde that they fought against, there's always those who couldn't get away in time, leaving bloody remains behind. Whenever they return to their room, Amber would always be the one to close the door as Layla runs inside their room to hide her sobs from the hallways of the dormitory.
"Shhh, hey now," Amber cooed as she rubbed Layla's back, "You're okay, you're gonna be okay. I'm right here." She never got a reply; all she could do was hold Layla close as the poor girl continued to shiver and shake. She was vulnerable at that very moment. Amber checked and double-checked in her mind that she had locked their bedroom door; if Blake had come inside and found Layla crying, Amber would have to explain and that was something she didn't want to do at all. Meanwhile out in the living room, Blake and Weiss were still seated at the couch. In this instance, Blake had one arm wrapped around Weiss as the other girl kept close. Poor Weiss was still shaken from seeing the body first-hand; although Blake was used to seeing things like that from experience, it was still never pleasant. Weiss eventually calmed down and went to their bathroom to wash up. This left Blake to her own devices, wondering why Layla and Amber were taking so long to change. She was about to go over to the bedroom door to knock when a bang at the front door rang out instead. Blake hesitated and looked towards the bedroom door. It was still closed, and Blake would rather let them change quietly. Whoever was looking for Amber or Layla could at least pass a message through her. Blake went up to the door and opened it, finding no one outside. What she did find was a red hand print on her own door as well as red words painted right next to it. Curious, Blake stepped into the hall and walked towards her dorm room door to read the note. "SCHOOL LOCKER" in dark red ink left Blake curious. Weiss and the other girls are probably already terrified from this morning, Blake thought after a moment, it would be best to clean this up before someone sees. She quickly entered her room with cleaning supplies and scrubbed the message and hand print off her door as fast as she could.
"What could that mean anyway?" Blake pondered on the message. Whatever it was didn't sound too good. Then again, all the message read was school locker, which meant that obviously there was something in one of the school lockers that Blake needed to see.
"Blake? What are you doing out here?" Weiss stepped into the hall. She noticed the cleaning supplies from their dorm in Blake's possession as well as the fact that they were stained red. She kept silent for now, hoping that Blake would explain it much later. Blake kept silent, opting to kept Weiss out of the loop in her mind. Weiss, however, wasn't going to make it easy for her.
"I know you're hiding something; you can't just ignore me when there are red stains on our cleaning supplies with you holding onto them," Weiss finally confronted the issue, "Blake, please. What's going on?" Blake looked at Weiss, her dark brown eyes searching Weiss' hazel ones. Blake didn't want the girl in front of her to go through any more pain. But at the same time, who was she to hide something like this to her when she was already familiar with what had happened to her for so long? Blake gave in.
"There was a message sprayed on our door. I just finished cleaning it up," Blake told Weiss as calmly as she could, "All it said was school locker, and I'm going to see what that means."
"You're going to the school then? Even if we aren't allowed on campus?" Weiss asked. Blake found herself hesitant. It wasn't because she was second-guessing herself on going. Rather, it was more because of how calmly Weiss had asked despite the potential danger of it all. After knowing what Blake went through on a daily basis long before meeting her, Weiss found that there wasn't much she could do to stop Blake from doing what she had to. And thus, she forced herself to remain calm about everything happening to Blake, even when she was terrified for the girl's life.
"Yeah, I got no choice," Blake answered sincerely. Weiss remained silent, looking at Blake and her determination. Once again, Weiss saw that Blake was determined to go and sighed in resignation.
"Then at least take me with you," Weiss said. Blake was taken by surprise, "Why? I don't need you getting into any more danger than-"
"What danger would there be to go to a campus closed off to the public?" Weiss fired quickly, cutting Blake off, "I don't want you to get hurt either; you're still relatively injured. I want to be there in case we need to. Please?" Blake opened her mouth to protest again, but stopped as she noticed Weiss' eyes. She didn't take note of it before, but she realized that Weiss had been crying. So much so that her beautiful hazel eyes were turning red.
"Weiss," Blake softened immediately, walking closer to Weiss. How on Earth could she say no to Weiss? I guess there isn't much danger in going to the school, Blake reasoned with herself.
"Fine, you can come. But you have to stay close to me, got it?" Blake conceded. Weiss lit up immediately, hugging Blake so hard that Blake felt as though some of her old wounds would open again.
They entered the school grounds at midnight. Since the campus buildings were left open for investigation by the police on night shift, Blake and Weiss managed to slip through easily enough. With Blake's aura covering them both (after a ton of explaining to Weiss about how it made them invisible to other people) they approached the lockers without causing a massive fuss. Blake went over to her locker and entered her combination code as Weiss kept a watch out towards the police. Inside, she found a mysterious envelope inside with a black seal on the back. Blake took it out and showed Weiss, indicating that the envelope was most likely what the message referred to. They left as quickly as they came, and returned to their dorm room.
Weiss looked towards Blake in worry as Blake opened the envelope to reveal its contents. Blake found a single folded paper inside with a few spots of black ink. It seemed really suspicious so Blake had half a mind to throw it away. But curiosity got the better of her and she looked inside. After all, whoever sent it went through great lengths to make sure it was received. Blake read the following aloud:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Knight of Cor Fortium,
I hope my letter comes in good tidings to you. I'm sure you are curious as to why I reached out to you in this manner. I am called "D". I am similar to you, but better in comparison. But that was a given fact of reality, I'm afraid.
You see, the reason I seek to speak with you is but a simple reason - you hold something of value to me in your possession. More specifically, you are acquainted with someone in which I wish to have beside me. I am sure that you do not understand her worth like I do, and that I will do a much better job in caring for her than you ever could. Your Guardian can attest to this.
Neither one of you are fit to truly be with her. I know this as a fact. So all I ask is for you to give her over to me. I promise she will be much safer and happier than she would ever be with you. Bring her to the rooftops of your school in three days time. Don't wait. There are others after her.
Signed,
~D~
"What the hell is this?" Blake muttered. The fact that this person named D was confident in their abilities to say they were stronger than Blake was quite the bold statement considering Blake had never met this person. It was obvious that whoever sent this knew of what and who she was, but what puzzled her more was what the person wanted from her. The person also knew of Amber from the looks of things, so the only people that Blake could think of was...
"This person wants either me or Layla," Weiss came to the same conclusion. She and Blake exchanged nervous looks. No matter what intentions this mysterious D person had, it didn't sound pretty.
