Description
"My dearest Lyria,
Please take this magnifying glass, the mirror, and the chocolate (I know how you love that brand, they have that rice paper wrapping...) as a token that I am yet alive. I have not been killed, but I must tell you that you should not consider me alive. I have no way of returning. Farewell, my child.
Please do NOT use the magnifying glass at any cost. Especially take care that you do not look into a mirror with it. I have said too much, but let me just say that this device has something to do with why I am damned away from you, my loving family. You are after all my only child left, and without your mother we are few, but still a family. I knew that you would be hurt more than anything with news of my going missing. But please know that I am alive and you are not alone. I admonish you to not attempt to find me, as I am not in any place that can be reached. I only wished to let you know that you are not yet an orphaned woman.
Love
Dad"
That is what the note said, wrapped around a tiny canister and tied with a bow. It somehow appeared in the mirror, in the downstairs servant quarters. Some of the other servants say that it is where a young woman used to have her room, but it has been decades since that family lived here. Indeed, says the washer woman who works with you day in and day out (Elanda) the family was pronounced dead. Not only the father, but the daughter too, also went missing. Thus the house going for auction. A rich plantation owner bought the place, bringing his army of shall we say, house servants? He is a distant and kind man, despite the disreputable opinion many like him come to deserve.
But that canister indeed has the mirror in it, and a magnifying glass.
What do you do with it?

The washer woman, bustling around with piles of towels and linens in her arms spotted you looking over those things. "did you find something? I wouldn't play with that in the house or you could get caught!" she barked. And moved past you to the laundry.

The washer woman was right, I should avoid using this thing later. I sneak the items into my pockets and continue working around the house. Maybe I'd get a chance to look at this stuff later.

I nod and run to an empty room. I empty out my pockets and look at the items again, particularly the magnifying glass. The letter said not to use it, but that was just silly. It was just a regular old magnifying glass, right? So I used to look the floor, trying to see how well I could see through it.

Looking at the floor, strangely the floor didn't distort or look anything like when looked at with a normal magnifying glass. There was no warping of the image. Instead, the spot on the floor seemed to expand into a sphere. You could see that inside the sphere there was a stone floor with planks of wood, mallets, buckets of stain, and you could hear someone talking to someone else.

I was surprised, no regular magnifying glass could do this. I wanted to pull it away to see if I was imagining it, but I was listening primarily to the conversation

I turned my head around and tried to looking for the voices. Those voices have never been heard in this household before, at least not to me. Where could they have possibly come from?

When you turned your head around, you noticed that the sound was only coming from the sphere of space in front of you. It seemed to be a hole into another world. Somehow that had come from using a magnifying glass on the wood floor?

I put my magnifying glass aside and looked at the hole. When did this get here? But I remembered what the note said about the magnifying glass shouldn't be used. Now I was starting to wish that I took the note more seriously.

The hole seemed to resonate with the voices a little longer until it began closing up. Soon it was a blip and then it was gone.

I almost screamed. I was pretty scared, so I was reluctant to try the magnifying glass again. After about an hour staring at where the hole used to be, I looked at the wall and mustered the courage to use the magnifying glass on it.

The spot where you looked on the wall grew, expanded into a sphere. There inside was a can of wallpaper glue, a brush, wallpaper rolled up, a plank of wood, and nails.

I was really confused now. It was quite obvious before this was no ordinary magnifying glass, and repeated use of this confirmed that. I look out the mirror and stared at it. The letter said to not use the magnifying glass on the mirror. Maybe it was a warning, maybe it was just something silly. However, some bit of curiosity took hold as a I started to move the magnifying glass close to the mirror. Could it be that bad?

As you got the lense's view closer to the mirror, you could see that the edge of the mirror was beginning to bulge out, but it hadn't fully expanded yet, not fully in view.

I raised my eyebrow. It didn't seem that bad. Maybe the note had exaggerated things, so I brought the mirror full into view of the glass.

The mirror began to expand until it was in full view on the magnifying glass, and instead, you expanded into a sphere. Or more like...you were sucked into a sphere. WHen you were aware again, you would have noticed that the walls were gone, the floor was a tile floor, and you were no longer in your house, it seemed. The horizon faded into blackness, though there were a couple stars high above. This place was filled with the strangest objects-- including a large "male" symbol, a large branching tree diagram on a blackboard, a journal on what looked to be a crate that you often sat on to read, a brush for washing the floors, and some other things.

When I appeared in this new place, I looked around, speechless. I just could not find anything to say. I looked at everything in the area. I tried running, seeing if there was a place I could reach to get out.

ZephyrStranded In reply to Robynightguard [2015-11-12 16:07:05 +0000 UTC]
It looked like the floor stretched to the horizon, but you couldn't be sure since the horizon and the sky were black. The place was lit by some invisible source of light in the middle of the area where you were. There was what looked like four statues of you, or really three mimes of you. They were so similar. Only, one had no clothes but was painted like a skeleton with a heart painted on his chest, another had his sunday best on and a halo over his head, the other was crying while standing there (tears still wet on his cheeks, but not moving with sobs, still as a statue), and another was sitting on a crate with hay around it-- chalk in hand and drawing pictures.

Running away, it gets darker and darker, the floor still hard under your feet. However, you notice that you yourself are producing a bit of light so that your feet are making a small spot of light on the ground as you walk.

I stomp my feet a bit and see indeed wherever I walked, there was a small bit of light. "This is strange," I muttered. I continued walking, although I considered going back because I wasn't seeing anything. But I wanted to see if the light that I was producing would help light the way, even if it was just a small bit of light.

It seemed to be constant around your body and it illuminated your steps, but not much else. As you keep going you notice (no one has done this before you ) that there is a slight glow on the horizon. It is miles and miles off, if the horizon here is like earth.

The buildings were not as bright when you got close as they seemed collectively. It was a well lit city, but all but deserted. There seemed to be some evidence that people lived there, even some litter, but no one to be seen. Suddenly a cab came down the street, drawn by horses. It stopped in front of you and the man inside peaked his head out, tophat tipped. "My condolences, and welcome"

She turned and looked at you, her face a mask. Indeed it was a mask. She was a manikin. "he did? oh wonderful" echoed a voice trapped inside. "you can begin right away?" She moved slowly, as if she were hovering. indeed it was unclear if she was under her poofy dress. The clothing shop was mostly dresses and women's fancy clothes, with the exception of some top hats, ties, and men's suits.

"Right away?" I asked, creeped out by her appearance. "Miss, I don't know how much about this-" Upon noticing that most of the clothes here were women's clothes I stopped and felt uneasy. Yes, there were a few men's clothes, but I was uneasy working with women's clothing for a bit. "You... you don't have many options for men's clothes," I pointed out.

She showed you to the stairway and opened the door at the top. "this is your room. " You notice that there are a couple girls asleep there already. there is only one bed. "I apologize for the tight space, we do the best we can for our workers" she said.
