Description Another of my automatons that I've redrawn.

Here's the original:

This time it's the D.Ev.O.N. unit's successor; the lighter, faster, and much more mentally stable, A.L.Ex.I.S. (Armored Light Experimental Interception System).

The unit featured here is undergoing testing at Groom Lake, Nevada, a few weeks prior to the official military announcement of the A.L.Ex.I.S. project.

Also prototypes, these units are fitted with more standard, modified civilian A.I. systems. They have complete free will, sound reasoning capabilities, and develop their own personalities over time, much like an organic sentient being. They fall squarely under international laws of A.I. units, and have complete rights and freedoms that all sentient machines have (despite their predecessors having subverted A.I. for the sake of supposedly increased loyalty).

They were also publicly known from the start; the United States Armed Forces announced the project in advance as development neared completion instead of keeping it black boxed indefinitely like the D.Ev.O.N. units. The units, as well as the prototypes, were also never intended to be scrapped after testing, and for the most part (save for a few violations) international automaton law was followed.

The prototypes of this unit have a yellow outer shell which denotes their test status; the prototypes were never really meant to see combat and were utilized merely for testing the various unit systems. In an attempt to spur the economy of automaton production, parts of the unit's outer shell design were outsourced to various automobile companies. The result was an armor coating that slightly resembled the shape of a high-performance car, or hot rod (a design feature that is sometimes joked about amongst the staff of the project, and the soldiers at the bases these machines are assigned to).

The mass-produced combat variants of this machine were re-coded "A.L.I.C.E." (Armored Light Interception, Control, and Evaluation) and given a variety of camouflage armor shells. Against international protocol, however, some A.L.I.C.E. units were fitted with portable nuclear reactors and the deadly R.A.I.N.S. tactical nuclear railguns.

The units are solar-powered and battery operated, and can carry everything from normal light firearms to their machine-portable electrolaser systems (variable power directed energy weapons designed to use a laser beam to create an ion trail through the air which then serves as a conduit for a high-voltage electric current).
