A little something I've been thinking about while making this one, it can be a nice tip for beginner artists:

I usually shy away from these very stable shots with head-on perspective. I find it easier designing something like this

, because the perspective itself is already dynamic and looks more interesting. The elements in the picture kinda layer themselves automatically because of the perspective, creating that sense of depth and form (which is a good part of what constitutes a nice looking image).

On straight-on shots, like this FF7 one, we don't have that luxury. So the trick is to create that sense of depth on a small scale. If you take a look at the way the character's arms and heads interact with each other, you can get a sense of what I'm describing. For example, see how Tifa's head is the farthest from the viewer, but her hand is the closest. And we got all the other foreground elements inbetweeen that.

I don't know, I'm not an expert, but I think about this stuff a lot while working. Maybe it's just that I work on a lot of details when doing these to try and make it more interesting and mask the fact that I'm usually unsure when I can't depend on the extreme perspectives. It's like my worst nightmare is trying to make something appealing out of a full body, faraway bald character stading still while wearing a white non-reflective body suit on a straight-on shot hahah
