Two days later, Ellen Clark had been remanded to the Gynoid Conversion Division and was under the care of Dr. Sommers.

Ellen lay on the examination bed, and the scanner leads were already attached to her head.

Stephanie readied the computers and said, “Ok, Ellen, this is your phase one neurographic scan. Among other things, we’re making a back up of your memories, so try to think happy thoughts.”

Ellen said nothing, but the silence was palpably hostile. Stephanie shrugged and continued, “I know, I know...easy for me to say when you’re the one strapped to a table.”

Ellen still said nothing, but her eyes narrowed contemptuously.
