I don't know the character, so I can't comment much on his proportions or accuracy to the original character concept [though that really doesn't matter too much 
I think you did a pretty decent job on shading though; that with the combination of the lineart was good.
Just, the shading could perhaps be less contrasting to the lightened areas - a little more variation in shading would be nice.
Ace job otherwise!
