Description

DTL who draws a training pic o-O

She must be sick

Na, just looking to give herself more work before the end of the month

I suddenly realize I screwed up the background majorly. The background should be covered with hills, not flat as it is now...

It's the Auvergne after all, not the Netherlands

*sighs* will do I suppose for now

Story

Previous: none

Next: CT '19 - Siren's Debut

With Philippe gone to Vienna for the HCl, the dynamic at the stableground shifted a little. With a rider less and only one horse gone, it meant that the other riders had more work between them and not everybody was so keen to put in the extra effort. It lead to a couple of heated discussions between Freyja and Baldwin until the latter's wife gave him a stern warning to behave himself. Victoria might be the smallest of the stablememebers, but she was certainly no pushover. And actually the only one who the head strong financial advisor somewhat listened to in terms of following orders. The result was a tense few weeks between the financial advisor and the stable owner that didn't blow over without a few more arguments that followed.

With most of the building done by the time summer started to show itself, they had fallen in some kind of rhythm, yet fully knowing anything could disturb that peace at any time. It was late May when that happened in the form of a letter with the last papers for a show registration. Luckely for Freyja, it was Victoria who found the letter in between the other mail before Baldwin got wind of it, otherwise the trainer wasn't too sure what would explode first. Her husband or the extinct volcano just outside the door.

Snatching the envelop with her, Victoria headed for the stables to look for her boss and ask what it was all about. Despite her ever present curiousity, she hadn't opened the letter to look what it was for. Perhaps it was an application for Philippe that had been late or send to the wrong adress or something of the sorts. Between legs, there was time for more competition after all and he wasn'tn planning on coming home unless he was closeby. And the latest reports suggested he would be flying further east after Vienna instead of returning to France.

"Fre? You in here?" Calling out, she entered the barn. The only immediate response was a few horses looking up from their hay as they heard a voice. A soft curse soon told her that she was in there.

"One of these days, I'm gonna kill whoever took my bridle or the rest of my tack." One of the barn doors was open and inside, someone was clearly fiddling with tack to get a horse ready.

"I advise against that course of action. We are already understaffed." Commenting on the treat, Victoria leant against the doorframe, watching what was going on.

"Plenty of souls who want to give a hand."

"But none you trust enough with your project. So spare us the treats." Victoria gave Freyja a knowing look as the latter but the bridle on the mare that was waiting patiently beside her.

"Can I help with something?" Luckely, the mare quickly accepted the bit, even if it was not her own, but it would do for today until the mess of tack was sorted out and everything had found its place.

"Perhaps." Victoria nodded, before holding up the letter. "You have an idea what this is? Did Leo left it behind or something?"

For a moment, Freyja narrowed her eyes at the piece of paper, trying to guess what it was. "No clue actualy. Open up and read it out loud, I'm a bit in a hurry if I want to be ready sometime today." Grabbing the reins, she started to head outside for some training, Victoria trailing behind her.

While Freyja mounted Lavinia, Victoria held her company along the railing of the arena. Reading the letter out loud as she had been asked.

"So basically, you are going to America late next month, leaving me alone here with the kindergarden?" Frowing, Victoria looked up when she was done and Freyja had started her warm-up. "And that for a show? What did I do to deserve this and why on earth would you go showing now of all times?"

"The show is for Lavinia. I hope it will get her ready for the real work. Leo asked to train a second horse before he left. My first choice would have been Kassie, but his training isn't going as well as I had hoped. Not to mention that he needs a little more spice in the horses he rides and not one who will try to escape when he's not looking for a moment." The explenation came a bit slow, since Freyja was trying to get the spirited mare to behave herself a bit. Otherwise, jumping her today would be out of the question.

"So you want to get Lavinia ready for him." Victoria nodded in understanding. She knew the mare was technically Freyja's, but the boss trusted her competition rider with her anyway. Leo knew what he was doing and would take as much care of her as he was doing of Boris.

"And I thought it would be a fun couple of days away from the boys for the two of us." She halted a moment when she passed her friend again. "You are coming with to show Lady. The show is at the stable where her sire resides, so it's a good opportunity to show her there."

"You are leaving the boys in charge?" Wide-eyed, Victoria stared at the rider before her. "Are you sure that's wise?"

   "I'm leaving Matthew in charge."

"A little better, but still a risk."

"Don't worry, if they burn the place down, they can rebuild it themselves and they have been warned about that." Freyja smiled. "Besides, they will have more than enough work to do, so there won't be time to pull any stunts for the week they are on their own."

"If you say so." Victoria still sounded doubtful as she watched Freyja continue her training with the mare.

"I do, and don't you forget to pack your bikini. The weatherforecast is sunny and warm!!!"

For the next 45 minutes, Freyja worked the mare on different hights to get her back in the right rhythm for competition and in an effort to stem her enthousiasm a bit. At times, she took even the smallest jumps af if they stood at 1m50 or higher. It was clear that she loved jumping. Perhaps a bit too much. Maybe she should have considered the Puissance instead of the regular jumping or something, but that might perhaps be pushing her luck a little bit too far. It would already be nice if she could finish the competition with a descent result. As she cooled the mare down however, she had a feeling that that wouldn't be to much of a problem if she jumped like she had done today.
