Personality
Meredith's overally a positive personality, albeit a little quiet and absent-minded at times. He doesn't necessarily seek attention but is in no means uncomfortable in a group as long as the topics stay away from matters that are too personal to be publicly discussed.
He's a fairly good actor and has a colorful (but proper) sense of humor, and likes dealing with people younger than him and helping them in any problems they might encounter. His positivity often leaks onto those he deals with and if you're having a bad day, he'll try his best to give you at least something positive to think about.
If caught in conflict he's likely to try and talk things out rather than go for a punch, though if nothing else goes through he's not a stranger to more stern approaches either (though most of his move usage is indirect threats or 'warning shots' rather than actual contact.) In situations where he's watching trouble unfold, he's pretty much always on the underdog side. Even though he's outwardly smiles and happiness, he despises bullies and people who think they're better than others just cause of either social status or their own opinion.
If you're being yourself and respectful of others around you, Mer's easy to get along with and a dependable friend. If not, he'll most likely ignore you.
History
Meredith Skylar Olson grew up as an only son to Maria (Altaria) and Peter (Togekiss) Olson, with both an older and a younger sister eventually accompanying him in the family home in Azalea Town, Johto. His parents, while not outright neglectful were rather absent with their worries about work (his father a part of the PR team in the Goldenrod Radio company and his mother a flighty socialite and a real estate agent) and more often than not, Mer found himself alone at home with his younger sister Samantha. Taking care of Sam was his first priority, but school required attendance and effort as well. Thus, stress started to build up from an early age.
Things went fairly well until middle school, when Meredith's older sister Veronica set up a stellar example by gaining access to one of the top schools in Johto, leaving her parents as proud as can be of their daughter. When the eldest child moved out of home to make a life for herself, the parents focus shifted on the only son, and while the attention was more frequent, the expectations grew. Maria was especially sure her son would follow his sister's example and push the bar even higher, and for a while, this seemed to be the case. Grades skyrocketed and the boy was very picky and fussy about his looks, but eventually the pressure started to feel overwhelming and Meredith felt wherever he went, someone was always watching, and judging. Self-criticism reared its head and soon, by the age of fourteen, it was the boy himself who put up the walls to climb and the limits to surpass. Relatives started worrying when he started skipping meals to both save time for studies and be sure he looked presentable as his parents, and himself, wanted him to be. Some time later, he rarely ate anything out of the immense fear of falling out of the unreachable image his mind had built inside it. His parents, busy as they were and proud of their son's achievements, failed to realize the turmoil that was unfolding. But luckily, his sister, along with other relatives didn't.
Eventually the boy was forced to seek medical attention with his now horridly apparent eating disorder, but it seemed even after all this, Peter and Maria failed to realize how close they'd been to losing their son altogether. After a long-winded fight with the parents, it was eventually deemed since the situation at home wouldn't change, relatives and authorities got them to consent to Meredith and Samantha being be moved out of home to a more suitable and caring enviroment. Placed into a foster family in Olivine City (as it was decided blood relatives were still too close to the original source of the problem to be the direct caretakers), the new family and old relatives did their best to support both of the children in getting on with their lives. Slowly, Meredith's condition started going up and he realized what he'd been doing and trying to achieve had been detrimental in every way. It wasn't easy in the slightest, but it was a step into a better future.
As the boy turned sixteen, his foster family wanted to give him a chance to start anew and get away from the pressure of dealing with his biological parents. After months of research, collecting promises of funding and support from relatives and finding out things about the region around it, the choice was presented for Meredith to attend the St. Mortiel academy in Hearthome, Sinnoh. After the initial doubts and worries about his younger sister, he decided to take up the chance and leave Johto. Maybe this would be the clean slate he needed to find out what he really wanted from life.
