Description Decided to write about Malikai my good healer for the love bug event!

He meets Genevie, The healer of broken minds after a near death experience with Ormas. She eventually takes him on as an apprentice, but they have a very mother/son relationship!

Now in gen 3, hes a grown adult vesper who took on the position to honor her. Now he travels with his mate and hoping to find an apprentice to teach. Maybe if he has his owns kits? Idk lmao

Anyways! Enjoy!! <3
------------------------

Malikai couldn’t stop running.

He climbed up into the trees and started gliding messily around the place. The hot sun on his back, burning into his skin. He couldn’t stop. Not when half the clan of Olaug is chasing him through the dead, gross forest.

He kept pushing himself, all of his muscles hurt, he needed to get out of that horrible place, he couldn’t stand it. The food, the treatment, the death. He hated all of it. Death would be better than staying in that place for another hour. He was always made fun of, ridiculed for not wanting to kill or hurt another vesper. Were scars really what he deserved for having a kind soul??

Not that it mattered right now. Right now it’s about trying to survive. Gliding from branch to branch. Feeling the wood under his hooves, feeling the wood scratching his back hooves. He already knows he has splinters and that he’s bleeding, but he can’t stop-

The branch under him snaps and he falls down to the ground. His body slamming on the ground. His vision became blurry, he saw the bunch of vespers stop and turn around in fear. Why where they running?? It didn’t matter. He had to get up. With every breath he took he started to get up slowly, his muscles felt like they were on fire. As he was getting up, he heard it, a low growl coming from behind him.

An Orma leaped out from the shadows and a sudden rush of adrenaline filled his blood and he rolled away, causing it to crash into the tree he just fell off. He scrambled onto his feet, searing pain everywhere in his body, he grunted in pain as he started to run for a tree to climb up. “Just get up safely” he kept telling himself as he slowly made his way up the tree. He had no energy, the only thing keeping him moving was pure adrenaline. He used all his might, and as he almost pulled himself up, the felt a rush of pain on his leg. A kind of pain that can only be described as something ripping off his leg, and when he looked down, the orma was there. It was pulling his leg and scratching him everywhere it could reach. At that part, he started to cry and cling onto the tree for dear life even though, he knew he was going to die.

For better or for worse, the orma bit too hard on his leg and it tore it off. Malikai suddenly didn’t feel a thing, his whole body was bursting with hormones. The orma fell to the ground, giving Malikai enough time to scramble up to the top. He sat down and looked at his leg, there was nothing anyone could do now. He wrapped his tails around the amputated leg to calm down the bleeding. He laid back and relaxed, enjoying the few more minutes that will be painless. The sun was starting to set, he smiled, knowing full well that this would be his final time watching a sunset. A firefly came out of nowhere, one of the most beautiful he had ever seen. It shone bright with colors of blue, purple and green. He gave a short smile and nodded Hai head to it as it fly away. He closed his eyes, coughed out dark red blood and took a deep breath “Polaris, please help guide me to the afterlife. I hope to see you there”

And passed out...

Malikai slowly opened his eyes, his body was in so much pain, every inch hurt. Was this really the afterlife?? Seems kinda shitty so far he thought to himself with a chuckle.

“What are you so happy about?? You almost died” He heard an older female voice say “Glad to finally see you awake though, its been a couple days since I found you”

“I just think it’s funny that I’m still-” He responded in a soft, tired voice, his eyes still barely open. What she said finally hit him “Wait...I’m alive??”

“Of course your alive, I’m the best healer around, wasn’t just gonna let you die” She responded in a very sly voice “But maybe I shouldn’t have, you don’t seem like the sharpest tool in the shed”

He chose to ignore the comment and lay his head back down to relax. How was he alive? The last he remembered there was an orma chewing on his leg and-

His leg!

He quickly moved his head to look at it and there was nothing

A bandage with dried up blood on it. His left leg was gone, all that was left was his thigh. He moved it around, it was painful but he kept spinning it in circles. It was gone. Taken from him in an instant. He started to panic, fear overtaking his body. How was he going to survive clanless??? He was useless now, no clan would want him.

"Maybe you shouldn't have saved me, life would have been easier that way" he managed to say before starting to cough. His throat was dry.

The mysterious vesper gave a sad glance over at the 3 legged vesp and brought him some water from a small jug and offered it to him, he took it without hesitation "Life is gonna be harder now that your leg is gone, but that doesn't mean life isn't worth living " she grumbled "I used good medicine on you, make the most of the second chance I gave you"

His eyes started to close again, his body exhausted from doing nothing but talking "What's you're name?" He finally managed to ask

"Genevie"

"I'm Malikai… Thank you Genevie" he said before his body forced him into another slumber

“You’re being lazy again” Genivie nagged him

Malikai was doing his daily practice, climbing up and down trees, learning how to run and just learning how to survive without his left leg. He rolled his eyes “ Your not the one missing a leg”

“No, but I’m teaching you how to survive so you better actually try cause this is pathetic” Malikai has learned to ignore her nagging. The last week and a half have taught him a lot about Genivie, shes very sarcastic but inside she has a soft spot in her, even though she will never admit it. He doesn’t know a lot about her past of where she came from, he would ask but he doesn’t want to be intrusive.

When he finished his exercise, he hobbled back to the tree Genieve was on. Walking had become such a struggle for him. They had been moving daily to get away from Olaug but now that they are out, they have set up a camp.

As he walked to her he tripped on a rock, causing him to fall. Instead of getting up he just laid there in defeat, with a sigh he rolled on his back and looked up to the stars. He wondered if this was all worth it? Should he have stayed in Olaug? At least there he had both of his legs. Genieve came down and gave him an unimpressed look “What are you a turtle? Get up”

“I’m waiting for the Orma to finish me off”

“Haha funny, let’s go back”

As she started to walk away he let it out “Do you think it would have been better if I had never tried to leave?” She stopped “I’m starting to wonder if I was just being naive thinking I could get out of that place unharmed. I just wanted a better life, was that greedy? Vespers never make it out of Olaug safely, that place is a living hellhole. Why did I think I would be different?”

She sighed but walked back and sat next to him “Did you enjoy your life there?”

“Of course not how coul-”

She interrupted him “Then was it not worth it? Wouldn’t you much rather live a life you can be proud of? You are one of the few who made it out of there and lived to tell the tale, sure not all of you made it but so what? You can reinvent yourself, The goddesses and I gave you a second chance, take it”

He looked at her and gave a slight smile “Only you would compare yourself to the goddesses”

“We all know I save more lives than they do, I have every right.”

He laughed and kept staring up at the sky, what was this feeling? He never felt it before. It was warm and soft. It wasn’t until he snapped out of his thoughts when he realized he was smiling. Not a fake one. Not forced. A genuine real smile. He couldn’t stop even if he wanted to so he just laid there. He looked at Genieve who was smiling at the younger vesper but when he looked over she stopped and started to walk away “Come on, let’s get in before the sun comes”

He got up with a grunt and ran to her side. Despite the age difference, he was the same height as her and was only going to grow more. They climbed up the tree and entered the hut.

“Hey,” He said before entering “ Thanks replacement mom”

She rolled her eyes as he gave her a huge smile. “You’re lucky you lost a leg or else I would be kicking you off this tree”

He laughed and walked to his bed and as the sun started to rise he realized he had never felt so happy in his life. His life all he knew was sadness and hatred. He knew blood and violence. Eyes staring him as he walked through the clan, Clanmates fighting, training him to kill. He never experienced love and warmth. He was proud of himself.

For the first time, he felt safe
