Description
A reimagining of Brock from Pokémon. For his story, Brock comes from a mining family that is 10 people strong, his parents and several siblings. They not only run a gym, but they also mine for precious diamonds and metals. No one would figure it, but the Terrapez family is immensely wealthy, but they use their wealth to ensure that the mountain they mine from and other environments are taken care of. Brock was next in line to take over the gym since he was the eldest child, but Brock's carefree attitude made him not care very much when he was 16-19. He traveled around and embraced a bohemian lifestyle and became a bit of a romantic to all women he met. When he was 19, Team Rocket launched an assault on the Pewter Gym and seriously injured Brock's father, Flint. Brock rushed home and helped his family recover from this attack. He even accompanied Flint to the Gym Leader summit to figure out how to take care of Team Rocket's attacks. The leaders were unaware that one of them was the Leader of this new threat, the Veridian City Gym Leader, Giovanni. He threw out some false information at the summit in hopes of using his enemies to get him closer to his goals, one of them being the capture of an experimented Pichu and the trainer of owned it, who was also a person of interest to Team Rocket for unknown reasons. The Leaders thought that someone should follow this trainer and Misty Aquato of the Cerulean City Gym suggested she can do it since no one knows about her compared to the actual Gym Leaders. Brock volunteered as well to join Misty and find out why Team Rocket wants this trainer and his Pichu. He seeks to redeem himself for abandoning his family and not being there when they needed him most.
Facts about Brock
1) He is Biracial, his father is African and his mother is Samoan.
2) Brock is much more of a ladies man here.
3) He doesn't get his ear pulled from women he flirts with, he gets slapped for romancing them in the past and breaking their hearts.
4) On his journey with Ash and Misty, he'll be slapped 127 times.
5) Brock is a cook and survivalist.
I used much of Brock's different designs from the Anime and Games for this version.

I like the name you gave him. Better than Slate, certainly. And of course, he's gotta have those closed eyes.
(One of the many things I like about Ashes of the Past is that the story explains why Brock reacts the way he does to Professor Ivy's name. A sad event to be sure, but made much happier by what he's done this time around.)

I wanted a surname that really stood out. They're closed most of the time, but he does open them on occasion.
Ashes of the Past ? Never heard of it.

Makes sense.
...I recommended the story to you back when you posted the picture of Ash Ketchum. You said you read some of it.

Whoa! 283 chapters!? You're gonna have to give me the cliff notes on the whole Brock situation because there's other stuff I need to catch up on and I don't have time to read all that.

Okay, so, to put it as simply as I can: according to that story, the reason Brody reacted the way he did whenever anyone mentioned Professor Ivy was because she was pulled into an Unown reality (just like Molly's parents were), and Brock was unable to save her. This left him crushed, as they were actually hitting it off. As a result, he was overcompensating as a way to try to move on. This was why his flirting got worse in the later seasons. In the story, when he was reminded (thanks to an Aura technique that a time-traveling Ash learned before being sent back), he came better prepared, using a crowbar to smack any any Unown that got to close. As a result of not losing Philena, he started going steady with her and stopped flirting with other women.

The fact that the sheer number of times he was slapped is already accounted for is hilarious to me. Personally, I found it more hilarious when Brock's Croagunk used Poison Jab on his sorry butt every time he flirted with someone, but to each their own. Also . . . do we ever get an explanation for why/how Brock can see with his eyes apparently closed? Is he like Toph where he can use some kind of 'earth sense' to see or am I being silly and that's just how he looks?

Yeah, I liked the Poison Jab as well.
'Brock has a mostly "go with the flow" attitude and doesn't even need to see what's in front of him. Some might call it incredible luck that he doesn't bump into anything. But he does open his eyes from time to time.
