she is constantly on the edge, closer to falling when you say 'No, I can't see you today' and leaning back to safety when you say 'Hello, kitten' with a smiling smile that lights up her way, but you are a liar. And you are the reason
that she is closer to falling.
Don't think she's doing this
because she is pathetic and sad and she feels all alone in the world.
She told me once
that she had a dream where she had the smallest pet mouse, and it never even bit her. She told me, in her dream, she set it free, because she loved it too much to hold it back. Run away, little field mouse.
Be free.
Do not think she's doing this
because she wants your attention.
She told me once
that she has to make a difference, and here, in this one horse town, she cannot. Not here, with the close-minded folk of the woods. She has to get away, and she has to save the world, because she's a hero like that.
She told me once
'I just have to save her, I know I can.'
So i said, you cannot save somebody who does not want to be saved.
and she looked at me
with her sunken brown eyes
and her tainted skin
and her hard cheekbones that are just soft enough
and she said
'Watch me.'

She told me once that there are some mountains in life you have to climb alone, and that she doesn't want to watch anyone freeze to death in their sleep next to her because she couldn't climb alone.
So i said
what if you don't come back?
and she looked at me
with her sunken eyes, and tainted skin, and her smile that looks like her fathers
and she said
nothing.
so i watch as she drifts away
and i watch as she
said nothing to anyone
and i watch as she
moves closer to the edge.
run away, little field mouse.
be free.
