With this piecce I wanted to address some little niggles I have with my own work.I tend to try too hard with my pieces, missing the point where the image is 'finished' and overloading it in an attempt to make it 'better'. Huge renders with masses of depth and complexity are all very well and good, but they suffer from information overload and end up without a focus.
My last submission is a good example of this. I'm not going to delete it however, I'd rather people saw my mistakes as well as my good stuff. Proves I'm as stupid as the next guy.
So this time round I started on this piece from square one so to speak. A basic idea of what I wanted roughed out on paper before even touching photoshop. Then a simple gradient, no huge saturated swathes of colour, a simple 3DS render and most importantly a focus point. I wanted to feel the richness of the tones rather than get mixed up with too much detail. Plus, its a desktop wallpaper, i'm sick of not being able to see my icons...
I'm much much happier with this result than some of my previous work. Sits nicely on my desktop and thats all I want

Great approach, you make an important point up above in your description. I tend to do the same in my work...
It makes a big difference in the end result of a piece when one is working toward a concept/etc.., rather than just "filling a piece up". ..
Sweet job on this piece with real smooth render work. . .

hmm..renders could gradually be improved on (complexity, forms) but right now it looks prtty nice...the orang gives a good contrast

This is a fantastic image!
I love the colors, and the off-centering of the focal point. It really makes everything stretch out with the flow of the lines...
The symbols and faded objects are also a nice touch.

thats pretty interesting bland of bryce and 3dsm work their.. but the 3dsm abstract thingy is a bit to choppy and i dont like choppy
