WATCH OUT FOR PATTERNS...an interminable contraption and the prelude to an interactive narrative project...
This is based on the first GIF in a GIF series called "Watch Out for Patterns".
An Interminable Contraption is the name I've given to the constantly repeating artworks that I'm immortalizing to play eternally on and on forever more in the ether; these are artworks that you can easily share if you know the right keywords via any website that subscribes to the major GIF senders (GIPHY or TENOR).
I've realised that it's possible to export the little films as image series, then to work on the image set with quite intricate adaptations and applying scripts to them in batch processes, and after that, combining them again for web explort
The hardest part of making this one was animating the shapes at the back. It was, this time literally, interminable because I decided to shift every time a set of rows of different lengths. It was much more complex than it sounds because what actually happens in the final version which doesn't have me moving in it, is that an eye pattern is graduall revealed because everyt time the rows sift, a different part of the eye is revealed. It was a complex process of working backwards and it took ages to get it right.
For the film part, I was wearing bright blue fluorescent coloured glasses, so the eye-patch and the frame were keyed out by accident. I loved the results so much, I left it there, lending the movements an infectious absurdity.
This GIF, like the others that are not in squares, was made specifically for DEVIANTArt so it's not actually sendable yet. Coming soon, however, are a whole series of GIFs in the square format which I'm going to upload to both of my GIF sites (tenor and giphy) and if anyone has any requests for texts that they'd like to see on one, I'd be happy to oblige. I'll take your request no matter how absurd the text, and I'll make it so that you can share it with keywords that we decide. 'Cos I like to do that sort of thing for people.
The theme for this artwork, like everything I do, has to be viewed in the context of its creation: as a precursor to an interactive narrative I have planned as soon as I can find at least fifty people who are willing to, even in a passive sense, to participate in some way.
In this GIF, the cult leader of the unusual new cult called "The Ocular Fellowship" that is gradually spreading across the world is pleading for you to believe that by following his lead and by learning and performing a set of movements he teaches that you will finally feel attuned with the universe and that harmony and peace will therefore prevail...
He could only mean the best for his devotees, right?
If only the people who followed his teachings knew how wrong they were!
This is the first in a GIF series where I perform the movements of the "Ocular Shift" a movement series that forms part of an interactive story I'm planning to tell about a cult attempting to spread an incantory dance across the internet for nefarious purposes.
The idea is that something far less interested in the well-being of a group of cult devotees is "watching our" for the signs sent by a group of empaths so that they can lock in on our location and finally force themselves back from where they're been banished for so long, intent on not only consuming the members of the cult but the entire human race.
Well, like, obviously!
Watch out for patterns before they start watching you!!!
