You could easily slip it to the photography category and no one would notice. Gorgeous render.

I like the flat. But I would buy a bit larger table. If someone would drop by for a dinner/supper it's way to small. Either that, or a collapsible one.

Very nice scene,

Just wondering though how you hid the ceiling without allowing light through? I've been looking for a way to do this for a while now, trying clipping planes and such, but nothing ever came out as good as this..

JaredTheDragon In reply to Dajaea [2009-09-17 22:10:18 +0000 UTC]

Almost all 3D packages allow for visiblity adjustments, like he says... In Maya, for example, you just turn off an object's primary visibility.

AdamoN In reply to Dajaea [2009-09-17 13:09:04 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's really simple to hide the ceiling, yet keep the ceiling's shadows.

In Cinema 4d (which I use for my architectural renders) you can assign a Compositing Tag to an object. This tag allows the object to be seen/or not by the camera, to cast/or not shadows, to be/or not reflected etc. So for an effect like this you just set the ceiling NOT to be seen by the camera, and it becomes "invisible" but still casts shadows and interacts with other objects. It's just not there for the camera.
I'm pretty much sure that every 3d application, like 3ds max or sketchup or whatever, have a similar functionality.... However an extreme lighting angle could work as well (but could look somewhat unrealistic. Not a case in this one, though...)

The-Fixer In reply to Dajaea [2009-09-17 09:58:17 +0000 UTC]

It could possibly be the outdoor lighting angle. but at the same time im not sure.
the reason why i thought that is because thats what i'd try if i didn't know a better way, plus the shadows look quite long on the balcony.
