Our final project for 3D class was to use wood to create a structure to support another structure we'd made that semester - together, the two needed to be our height (I am 6'0").I chose the paper project I'd done in a group because it was the tallest (2 feet) and because it was awesome...
...the purpose of the paper piece was to demonstrate the evolution from rectilinearity to curvilinearity. My wooden piece was to demonstrate this same principle, but also show the relationship between paper and wood.
So here is what I did...I made the wood gradually look like paper towards the top, until it transitioned into the paper project. I fractured the tops up to look like paper pulp and painted them white for the same reason. The effect was acchieved...bleh. Here it is:

Wow, what a grand display! The relationship between wood and paper is closer than most people recognize...and having this constructed at 6' tall, it's certainly an imposing issue.
The photograph itself came out really nice too. The backdrop is very natural and creates a pleasant, non-excessive contrast on the contours of the display.
