I had the pleasure of having some maddeningly disrespectful comments towards Ariel pop up on my Facebook feed way back when. (No joke, I was downright pissed OFF.) But instead of stressing myself out engaging in a petty argument on the internet, I decided to channel that energy into drawing my favorite mermaid as she appears in Kingdom Hearts 3.
I absolutely love the idea of having summoned characters appear as if they were made up of the elements. I've never drawn water to this kind of extent either, so this was a fun and interesting experiment for me. I'm still horrible at backgrounds though. Still. It's my appreciation for the character that should be the main focus here. Especially what with all the controversy lately. (I find it funny how a war on casting doesn't prompt me to make art, but a few stupid comments will. Go figure.)
Well regardless, it was a prompt to try something new. While I hate the circumstances I made it under, I'm glad I was able to make something that WASN'T some shoddy costume design.
Took me all afternoon that day, so it's no masterpiece...but it was just a quick something to try and get my mind in a better place.
