Description
Part of a series of illustrated character portraits inspired by White Wolf's Exalted from a campaign I've been running for the past year. Jumping off of the black and white illustrations, I've started colorizing these pieces. Not surprisingly, the process is incredibly quick after the initial work of sketching, and then creating the pools of darkness. Plus is gives more room to make quick back drops.

The background for this image is much more abstract, but is intended to be a representation of Morty's anima banner, the aura that burns as Exalted expend Essence. In literary terms it's a representation of the character's power, but in practical terms, it's a big beacon to the rest of the world that the character is at their weakest - usually leading the heroes to facing far greater challenges sooner because they just made themselves known for miles.

Hailing from the distant world of Autocthon, Mortlanu was a former special enforcement officer for one of the many cities of the Pole of Elemental Metal. For whatever reason, he volunteered to become part of a program to save his people from the slow decline and death of their home world by preparing Creation to accept colonists from his city. Hinging on a love of heavy metal and Transformers, Mortlanu has become a gun-wielding desperado who can transform into a Shovel-Headed Kill Machine to rundown his foes and carry his allies to and fro across the River Provinces. Having achieved his childhood dream of "becoming a truck", Morty's sights are now set on becoming a city.

Despite an appearance that would make most assume he is a Creature of Darkness, Mortlanu is actually a Chosen of Autocthon whose body is primarily made out of Moonsilver, which explains his penchant for transformation.
