I always wondered why these characters weren't given a proper origin before Crisis On Infinite Earths came out. They could've released a one-shot titled oh, I don't know, "Crime Syndicate of America Special", or something, where in it, each member of the Syndicate, while still trapped in the bubble between universes, end up sharing their backgrounds with the rest of the team. It could also establish how they managed to get back to Earth-Three just as the Crisis hit.
