I use to love the night, but then thousands and thousands of zombies tried to eat me... oh and a few shot me with an arrow.

I got by with leather armor, stone sword and worn-out bow with 10-20 arrows. But sometimes I died, despite my skill.

Admitelly, an *enchanted* bow is optional, but iron equipment is pretty much the 'real'- Basic and reliable- stuff.

Answers first part? Where was the question there in the first place? And I rarely died. More often I sucseeded in my attempts. And from what I think, everyone dies, no matter the gear. It just take a larger number of creepers/skeletons, or some gasts...

-Also, having death come slower AND less often is usually a good thing, whatever the scenario... It's a question a cost-efficiency.
With just a little care, unenchanted iron equipment is the most cost-efficient resource for 'delaying death', in a reliable manner. That's all. After that, anything extra is optional, but never bad (depending on your resources).
