i don't know about advice, i've kind of just been bullshitting it for the most part lmao
using references is really important, i think some people forget that.
watching how other people do it like on youtube or whatever has been a pretty big help for me as well.
breaking out of your comfort zone is also up there. i used to never paint backgrounds for anything, so i made a conscious effort to start doing that, and i think i've gotten a lot better for it. sorry if that's pretty general haha
