Skyward-Dreamer In reply to ??? [2012-05-21 09:39:19 +0000 UTC]
Thanks a lot for the watch!
Oh yay ... I didn't realize you're the artist/author behind Rage against the machines. I've been saving that in my inbox for when I have some time off. Cool!

It seems like you're not the only one who's been saying the same thing... I kinda have to wonder why, maybe it's the art styles.
Anyway, thank you for the watch!!

Aw, not in my case, I've simply seen the pages as tiny thumbnails so far. Heh, and the name change might have had something to do with it as well.
Meanwhile, I'm lagging so far behind with my comic I'm pretty much working on it around the clock. A few more pages, then I'll take some time off to do relaxing things like browsing here on DA. Sorry for the delay.
Welcome and thank you too.

Yeah people have been talking about the name changes recently.
And please don't apologize on the comic delays, really. I understand time pressure and there are always something more important in life.
Plus I have to say you've done a great job editing the pages, I enjoy reading them because you had good taste in placing the cameras, and the texts are well-placed.

Heh, I can see why. Thankfully some deviants have easily recognizable avatars, or I'd lose track of everyone.
Nah, for me it's just the 'good girl syndrome'. I always pressure myself to do more in a week then I'm able to and then I get stressed out when I fail to meet the requirements so to speak. So, I never really have piece of mind to just relax.
Thank you, I'm glad to hear it. It's certainly not as artistic as some other artists here on DA but I guess it's just my style.

Ah, my professor is very serious in relaxing, she believes one who over-stresses oneself out is equivalent to bad time/life-management, so I kinda picked that idea up along the way and started to treat myself nicer.
Creative actions are based on self-expression, you shouldn't compare or conform what is you to fit others' demands (I actually got comparative comments in PMs, heh). Just do yourself, I'm sure whoever loves your work will love them just the way they are.

I think s/he's right about that. It's funny, I heard a quote in a movie sometime, that 'carers', people who feel very strongly towards other people and care for them, often take very poor care of themselves. I'm definitely in that category myself I think. I don't deliberately destroy myself with drugs or drink or anything, but it's really hard just to take it easy and relax. Strange.
No, you're right of course. And I certainly don't aim to copy anyone else. It's just great to see how others work and think and see all the different formats of art there are. Sometimes I get so jealous I never want to touch a pencil again, lol. Thanks.

StellarStateLogic In reply to Skyward-Dreamer [2012-05-24 12:04:53 +0000 UTC]
I find it very hard to relax, either. I'm quite conscious even when sleeping... so when I sleep, I'll always have dreams, and all of my dreams will be lucid dreams, and that doesn't really fit as taking a rest at all.
Pencil is your greatest friend in the creative journey. But I understand the jealousy, sometimes I'd ask myself why would I still drawing and posting things up shamelessly. But I told myself to ignore that, it's the words of the devil.

Skyward-Dreamer In reply to StellarStateLogic [2012-05-24 21:14:03 +0000 UTC]
Wow, I only rarely experience lucid dreams myself. They're so strange, often mine are being in a special place, like our old house, and because I know I'm dreaming but also accessing images from my mind, I make a great show of studying details. It really is like visiting the real place. I remember once how I looked through the kitchen windows down the street and watched all the neighbouring houses and gardens in every detail, even the cars in the driveways and the bushes and trees. Amazing. But usually I dream normal dreams when I finally fall asleep.
I totally agree. I could never convert to being a pure digital artist myself. It would take away so much of the personal feeling and joy of just fooling around with graphite on a piece of paper.
And if we never practise, we can never hope to improve or change our styles, can we? I tell myself that when I feel annoyed and incompetent. And really, the wide variety of styles and skills is what makes human art so interesting, don't you think so? I mean, if every single human painted the same thing in exactly the same way, how fun would that be?

StellarStateLogic In reply to Skyward-Dreamer [2012-05-24 22:25:10 +0000 UTC]
The scariest lucid dream I have are the ones that you can actually feel physical pain. Like when I'm in a place and if I know I'm dreaming, I'd do all sorts of reality-tests to get myself out of there, sometimes my legs or vertebrae would ended up having spasms and it hurts a lot... fortunately, once I get up, the pain usually fades away quickly.
Variety is a bless of creation and life, it's a mystery as its glory. I guess it's just that when people have goals in doing things, they tend to look up to the 'successful examples' and ended up following a trend or popular art style. I'd just do whatever and surprise people, sometimes I don't even know that I can draw something until I've actually finished it. It's more fun this way.

Skyward-Dreamer In reply to StellarStateLogic [2012-05-25 22:02:47 +0000 UTC]
Wow. Ouch! That's interesting. I've never had to force myself from a dream like that though, it's always about visiting some strange and amazing place for me and I'd quite happily stay there rather than drift back to normal sleep again.
Ha ha, agreed. I'm really not much of an artist I think, but I told myself years ago that I need to stop being afraid of trying things. The worst thing that can happen is that I fail, that I can't draw what I wanted, and then I'll find some way around that problem.

StellarStateLogic In reply to Skyward-Dreamer [2012-05-26 04:00:59 +0000 UTC]
Art and techniques are inseparable. I understand how it feels like when you can't draw what you see. I'm practicing facial expressions, and right now I still doing poorly in drawing environments.
My way of solving this would be quick paintings based on Impressionist art style. Starting from just the shapes, the light blocks, and prominent focal point, instead of line drawing.

Skyward-Dreamer In reply to StellarStateLogic [2012-06-02 16:54:28 +0000 UTC]
Lol, well I'm doing poorly with everything which might be a blessing in itself. But yes, that can be very infuriating. Usually it's something like an angle that won't come out right, so the simple answer is to try a slightly different angle that works. And you're really great with facial expressions! I wouldn't worry too much about the environments as long as the main focus in the frames are on the faces anyway. I think the instinctive response is to be drawn to the face and eyes of the characters and you might not even notice what's in the background.
Sounds like a good approach.

Maybe it's like a zoo on the Normandy.

OH yay! well thank you. Sorry I said good night. I ended up having to write a fanfiction for a picture I saw. It was just too cute and I had to write the character out for someone. And I'm supposed to see a showing of The Avengers in seven and a half hours. YAY for my brain going psycho! But I like llamas.

Doesn't matter, time difference doesn't really make sense online.
And it's always good to do spontaneous creation, like inspiration just come and go like a spark, it'd be best to just do it when you have the feel.

But they die for a reason, I guess, and villains always die....

Hmm.
I don't mind people including my original characters in their comics/fan arts.
But please DO keep in mind that you DO have to give credits to the respective owners/creators of any characters you're using from. I take this issue very seriously, so if you can do that it'd help a lot and it'd save me some troubles.
