Hi,
i read your journal and i would say that it has to do with the light meter embodied in your camera.
When you point your camera to the ground u need more light to pass through the lens of your camera which is not the appropriate amount of light to record the sky.
the reverse happens with the sky.
your camera's lightmeter meters the 18% of the reflective light fo the object. that is a medioun grey.

U have to choose what u want to give emphasis on.
the very traditional photographers at the beginning of the history of photography used to have two negatives. One for the sky and one for the rest of the scene and they combined them during the printing process of the black and white negative.

u can take a measurement of the sky, then of the land and then shoot with a medioum value in your controls of your camera , of course if you have it on the manual setting.
