hypergojira In reply to ??? [2009-12-26 13:43:08 +0000 UTC]
The article was fun and provided a good starting point (as the title suggested), but didn't really explain much. I like the explanation for not having to breath and eat (I didn't have answers for those) and long life spans, but it never provided an explanation for how kaiju can exist structurally. It said they are impossible (their bones would crush), but never explained how the infusion of rare elements would prevent this from happening. It basically assumes that it will work. It made a lot of assumptions and had some good concepts, but not a lot of detailed explanation. Regardless I enjoyed the article and thank you for sending it to me. It would be a good starting point for a more in depth analysis.

I agree. It sounded really interesting until it started talking about partial gravity negation. To me, gravity modification is a lazy method to Hand Wave the difficulties of kaiju supporting their own weight. For such reasons, I avoid gravity modification in my own Godzilla series, to the point of replacing King Ghidorah's "Gravity" Beams with lightning.
I felt a bit disappointed that it didn't discuss kaiju beams more in-depth, because that is a large hurdle for kaiju that I would have liked to see the author solve.
I did find the conclusion on the relationship between kaiju and hyper-cultures rather interesting. I always thought that the hyper-cultures were interested in kaiju for military reasons.

Well, I am not sure. I finally got a new graphics board to run my tablet, but now my whole computer is not performing properly. I need to take it in to get looked at. It is my newest and most powerful computer, but it is running the slowest.
However, I really haven't had much time to work them anyway (another reason i haven't fixed my computer yet). So I am really not sure when I will get back up and running.

if it is true that you are done with the Gojira Resurrection project, can you a least sketch the final phases of Gojira's/Godzilla's evolution?.

I'm not saying it is completely over, I've just moved on to other things for awhile. But I will post and decent sketch I make of Gojira Phase III. The problem is I haven't been able to make one yet. I can't seem to get my mental version out onto paper or tablet yet.

What do you think of my idea for a new American Godzilla: A remake of Gojira 1954 set in modern New York.
It would be more realistic than the Toho films, returning to the original's concept of what would happen in the real world. Godzilla and his abilities would be portrayed in a more scientific fashion.
What do you think?

hypergojira In reply to Godzilla2014 [2009-05-11 14:55:12 +0000 UTC]
The major problem is that the original Gojira is very specifically japanese. The japapnese are the only ones to have suffered a nuclear attack and the original gojira movie is really related to that experience.
If you want to do a USA remake you need to have something as equaly terrifying and I am not sure what that would be.
If it is not a remake, but a retelling then you can do anything of course.

Godzilla2014 In reply to hypergojira [2009-05-14 19:03:51 +0000 UTC]
The idea is to retain the nuclear metaphor of the original and other things that made it a good film that its rip-offs simply disregarded.
Like Hurricane Katrina and 9-11?
What is the difference between a remake and a retelling?

"The idea is to retain the nuclear metaphor of the original and other things that made it a good film that its rip-offs simply disregarded."
You could with mile island and all.
"Like Hurricane Katrina and 9-11"
I don't know if those are really of the same magnitude.
"What is the difference between a remake and a retelling?"
I would say a remake basically tells the same story (plot). But a retelling will take the original themes and looks at them from a new angle or context.

The Three Mile Island incident didn't kill a single person or even injure anyone. It was all blown out of proportion by the liberals who whined for alternative energy, and then get it shut down so they could resume bitching for alternative energy.
I don't know if those are really of the same magnitude.
The same magnitude as Hiroshima, no. But they do make good models of such a situation and give the audience a frame of reference for the magnitude of the damage Godzilla's attack leaves behind.

I gues it`s a retelling in that case. I was thinking of going more in depth into humanity's reaction to Godzilla. Examine things like "What happens to those displaced by the evacuation?" "What would the government's plan of action be?" and maybe even thought-provoking things like "How would people look at kaiju eiga after such an event?" "How would Toho respond to life imitating their art?" "How would G-fans like you and me react to the force of nature that is Godzilla becoming a reality?"
What do you think?

Wow, youβve got a bit of an agenda (but don't we all)! Now mine: of course had we listened and really explored alternative energy back then we wouldnβt have the problems we have now.
Anyway, I wasnβt suggesting the event was similar in scale, magnitude, threat, whatever; just the fact that it involved nuclear energy of some type and you said you wanted to keep the nuclear angle. Chernobyl would obviously be clearer if you want to go with the mutation angle β but I donβt suggest that. How do you plan on incorporating the nuclear aspect then, and for what purpose?
"The same magnitude as Hiroshima, no. But they do make good models of such a situation and give the audience a frame of reference for the magnitude of the damage Godzilla's attack leaves behind."
Thatβs an interesting way to look at it. In that case, Godzilla would probably be a good combination of both. It would be the 911 type destruction but on a Katrina scale.

I definitely think the first two points are interesting and can clearly be tied back to 911 and Katrina. I think they have a lot of potential. The response of kaiju fans seems a little hokey; like the looking into the camera gimmick that is so popular now. I suppose it could be done well, but I think it would be more difficult.
Good luck, it seems like you have some good ideas I be interested in reading a draft or an outline when you get one worked up.

hypergojira In reply to Gareku [2009-05-04 02:10:01 +0000 UTC]
The draft seems workable. It obviously borrows a lot from various versions of an American Godzilla movie (the 1983 and 1994 versions specifically) script/concept, but that is not a bad thing. I would, however, change the origin of Godzilla itself. Either donβt explain it at all or come up with something more plausible or more fantastic.

I may use that whole "protosaur" thing, but for now I think I'll stick with what I have. Also, in the cartoon and toy series for the fan fiction/movie, I plan to have tow Godzillas revealed by the blast, one alive and one skeleton. The living one will become the main character of the series and the dead one will be found by aliens and turned into Mechagodzilla

Interesting. What exactly were you looking for comments on? The artwork, design or concept. Well, I will quickly touch on all three (but remeber I am not an artist myself).
Artwork: This shows a lot of promise, but needs some polishing. I like the dynamic position/angle that is a good start. I would suggesting inking or shading your work as it will stand out better. It is always a good idea to have strong bold lines, they show confidence. I would also show both hind legs and more detail at least in the head and around the "rocks" on its back. The foot is a bit undersized and the large claw on the forelimbs is in a differnt location on each hand/arm.
Design: I find the bull horns on the head a little odd as they are not really large enough to do anything. I am unsure if the hand spike is supposed to be coming from the thumb area or the wrist. I like a thumb spike but not the wrist one. I not sold on the idea of a monster that shoots rocks from its back. I generally believe rocks are much of threat for kaiju (missles and bombs aren't so why would rocks be a good weapon), and I think it needs more teeth in its mouth.
Concept: not sure what the concept is or what you mean by the abilities of Godzilla and Ghidorah?

Doctordid In reply to hypergojira [2009-05-04 19:47:21 +0000 UTC]
the horns shoot lighting and he has fire breath like Godzilla. the wrist spikes he can thrust into an enemy at close range. the Rocks grow back once fired. So u think i should put some shade into him and some color?

I would recommend hard lines and then color and apply shading w/ color
