I'm really on the fence about it, tbh.
I've seen some awesome posts on Tumblr that suggest he could be Yakone's son, and those were pretty convincing, and it does make me wonder.

The only think I know about Yakone is that he's directly tied to whoever the main antagonist for the series is--and after this last episode, I'm wondering if it's Tarrlok instead of Amon. I'd love to see Korra and Amon fighting side by side, since both of them have a common enemy in Tarrlok and disagree with all that he does. I think Korra could temper his extremism a little bit too.

I feel like Yakone would have been too old to have mentored Tarrlok. The incident with Yakone happened 42 years before Korra arrived in the city, and Tarrlok is 37.

Tarrlok said that Aang had "dealt" with him, which implies to me that Aang could have possibly killed Yakone five years before Tarrlok's birth...or he could have possibly taken his bending. Either way, Yakone was probably arrested and would have never seen the light of day, let alone be able to mentor Tarrlok.

Part of me is wondering if Amon's going to have a Zuko moment and turn into a protagonist, since Tarrlok is looking like the truly sinister one.

I love how this show is tackling the real life problem of extremism and extremists.

My father watched episode 3 with me, and compared it to class warfare.

I think it's just so awesome that they're able to tackle these things in a show advertised for children. It's like it inadvertently teaches them to form their own positions on social rights issues from a young age.
