I learned all my digital media stuff on my own, I was taught the very basics of photoshop at highschool but it was mostly for photo editing and not really for drawing. I mostly learned traditional art and painting in my school years, was a good place to start but I don't think a lot ended up sticking with what I do now.
I wish I could help you there but I'm not really in the know on where the best places to study would be. Like I would assume Auckland would have some good courses but the cost of living there is eesh, yikes.
