I think is has something to do with the writing and the characters. In my eyes, the hate probably stems from the fact they see the characters as stupid, boring, or just party every day. Also, the ponies that were in G3 that have G4 counterparts have completely different personalities, too. There weren't any real villains in G3 either. I also think the hate comes from the stereotypical portrayal of girls as well (don't know about that one).

Personally, I think G3 is getting more attention than G1 just for the sake of being hated upon, which I don't like. I wish I could say to them, "if you hate G3, then just leave it alone for crying out loud!" I stopped being a brony when I found out how hated G3/G3.5 was because I thought they are cool and cute. I still find G4 MLP fine, but I prefer G3 over it.

Yeah, I figured as much myself, but I wanted to hear your opinion, too.  My own fondness of G3 started off as recent nostalgia for the 2003 Strawberry Shortcake, but it became more over time.  Yes, shortly before adult males took to G4, I was getting into SS shortly after I graduated high school and was even the editor for its episode guide on tv.com.  Anyhoo, G3 has much potential, it just needed the right kind of direction.

That's what I was thinking too; in my opinion, G3 had some room for improvement, but I still found it enjoyable.
I grew found of G3 in much of the same manner as you, except that my recent nostalgia is based on early 2000s media in general (music, games, TV ads, etc.).
