I hope you wouldn't mind if I ask you for an advice now and again I'm trying 3D max out too and I could use some suggestions on modeling.

Ok I already have a question. But I'll have to make a screen shot to make it easier to understand. Gimme a day or so. I need access to My computer hehe.

CraftHunger In reply to Mad-Maxx [2010-09-19 18:46:46 +0000 UTC]

I took my time alright! So I was trying to figure out how to make my polygons look sexy! But... I failed x_X. Basically what I can't figure out is how to make them not get Spit in to two triangles when I'm moving around polys that are located beside them. I can post a jpeg to show you what I mean if you wish.
Tx for the hint in advanced

Mad-Maxx In reply to CraftHunger [2010-09-19 22:26:48 +0000 UTC]

boy poly's lol those can be like figuring out a puzzle, but one of the nice things at least back like 5 years ago lol, 3Ds max had a feature where you could smooth the polys out. You could select a group of them and bam it would look higher poly but still be low, also you can cheat polys by using textures to your advantage, just look at what the guys at Blizzard, that work on WoW, have done. hell look at some of the polygon models for some of your favorite games, you would be suprised how cut back they are. some times all you need are a bit of smoke and mirrors to get the affect you want. Oh and one last thing you could also go with a low poly model for zoomed out shots and then have a higher poly one for detail or close up shots, theres a name for it but i have forgoten it sorry lol.

CraftHunger In reply to Mad-Maxx [2010-09-21 15:54:33 +0000 UTC]

I found that smoothing feature Thanks for the hint! I guess I was just too chickenshit to try and click something that had lots of buttons around it and I was looking for a smoothing filter, when All i needed is just to keep looking in Editable mesh area! It looked to complicated, but I figured it out in no time. Once again, thanks for the hint dude

Mad-Maxx In reply to CraftHunger [2010-09-21 16:55:57 +0000 UTC]

np lol, like i said, i havent used that program for a while, but most of the stuff should be the same, thats the one nice thing about 3ds max was that it was more user friendly and allowed me to edit polygons more easly, maya is good tho for more organic shapes, but not as user friendly, well at least the version 5 years ago lol
