Hello, creature box I've been wondering ever since "The journey home" Episode of Slugterra aired. If there was a chance a spin-off series centering around the slugs would happen. Do you think that's a possibility?

Hello again, CreatureBox!
Recently I came across the article talking about cancelled 2006 Ratchet and Clank Nexus game. As I know there is only one art of this game available in the web at the moment... and since you were one of the main artists that worked on this game, I thought may be you have some of the old concepts laying around. It would be amazing if you would share this artworks with us, since this game poses a big interest for R&C fan community)

Hi CreatureBox!
I am a very big fan of your artworks and I have two questions that have been bothering me for a long time...
The first one is: have you created the original Ratchet design or was it someone else?
And the second one: were you self-taughtΒ or you went on art classes?

Hi!
1. Yes, we created the original Ratchet design.
2. Both!

I know you guys have read it over millions of times, but I must repeat it again:
You guys are doing an awesome job and you are a very huge inspiration for the entire community that focuses on Videogames and their "behind the scenes" work (concept arts, storyboards etc.).
I never was all too much into games that were released on the PlayStation besides of maybe Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. In earlier days my family was on a Nintendo-Products-Only route and so I barely knew something else in my childhood. I still have more enjoyment on Nintendo Consoles, but I must admit that a lot of PlayStation games that I was able to play while I was hanging around with some friends made me kind of jealous that I barely had chances to get to know other consoles and their existing IPs.
I got my PlayStation 2 pretty late, around... 2005-ish, and both my cousins were introducing me into the Ratchet & Clank Universe.
While they had Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal I bought the first game and Deadlocked (It is admittingly a shame that the names were cut in Europe and certain other parts of the world. The innuendos within the titles are just brilliant, even the cut ones from early development stages of All 4 One, A Crack In Time etc., but I understand the changes due to the PG-Rating System), and from time to time we traded our games so I had Going Commando/Up Your Arsenal while they had their fun with the first title and Deadlocked. I sadly cannot play the PS3 and PS4 titles of the Ratchet & Clank Franchise, but I still keep track by watching Playthroughs/Let's Plays of them through Youtube.
I... know it's not the same experience as playing the game all by yourself, but it's not only the gameplay and mechanics or story or the humor that makes me enjoy these type of games, no, it is also mainly because of all the love and care that went into the visuals and concept works for the characters, gadgets, weapons etc. that exist within the franchise's universe. Ratchet & Clank really sucked me dry with its humor and how lively these fictional characters are acting. I know that there are other great games like Jak & Daxter and Sly Cooper, and even Spyro the Dragon that had similar humor and the more cartoonish art direction, but from all of these IPs I really think Ratchet & Clank are the best example that Cartoonish-looking Franchises can still be a very big influence within the game industry and hell of addicting. I'm sure you guys can relate when I say it's VERY hard to focus on the actual gameplay if you can't stop laughing. You can't imagine how often I needed to pause the game - sometimes I laughed so hard that I had tears in my eyes and slight stomachaches. Congratulations on that, I BARELY have a laughing fit. If that's not saying something then I don't know what will.
But I feel like I'm totally getting off-topic here.
What I ACTUALLY want to say is that I always love to see concept arts of TV-Shows and Videogames. It inspires me a lot and it amazes me all the time when I see how big the differences are between the early stages of a product and their "final hours". I'm collecting all sorts of Artwork Books from different Franchises like the entire Zelda Historia or Okami, or even Megaman. I'm sort of a nerd when it comes down to things like that because it can teach so damn much in many different aspects, and seeing such amazing talented professionals here on DeviantArt is always a very big honor for me. I'm interested in working as a concept artist myself someday though I know I have a VERY long way to go until I am at the level of professionals like you and every other artist that is active in the videogame industry. All I can say is that you guys have a heavy influence on me, but sadly I'm too unsure about my own skills which, sadly, limits me in all possible ways.
I probably talk a damn lot here but having at least a little bit of a chance to be close to the people that are a part of big projects/franchises like Ratchet & Clank fills my heart with joy. I love to see the hard work of you guys - final products, cut contents and some random stuff alike. Keep up your amazing works and talents, no matter if it's about Ratchet & Clank or other projects you're a part of!
I wish you a great weekend!
Sincerely:
KokoaMinto
PS: Such a damn shame I found this account THIS late! I need to cover my shame by watching you guys now. Deal with it!
PS2: I was watching the movie of Ratchet & Clank in theatre and loved it. I never cared about the harsh criticism the movie got - It was a wonderful experience seeing these two quirky Characters on the big screen and I regret nothing. But the cliffhanger at the end was sort of mean. A hint for a possible sequel? You guys are such a tease! X'D
PS3: Please Mr. Guertin and Mr. Baldwin, release an Official Artwork Book Collection of Ratchet & Clank. I know a lot of your Artworks can be found here, on your Official Sites or within the world wide web, but having a physical copy of an Artwork Book would be such an amazing thing! I'm pretty sure that there a lot more of cut content or concept artworks that haven't been shown to the public, and it would be a shame if all these wonderful works would be put into the archive never to be seen again. If not now then maybe as a big special for the 15th or 20th Anniversary of the Franchise?

Thanks for the kind words! Ratchet has been a blast to work on from the very beginning and it's always humbling to see the effect the franchise has had on the lives of fans. We really appreciate the support!

You two are most certainly welcome! It's always a blast to see new works from the both of you and I hope that we will see some more in the future.
I know that the two of you are super-duper busy and stressed because of upcoming projects you will be working on, but I always have this little itching in my fingers to ask a more experienced artist a few questions about their work, especially as Concept Artist.
I apology in all high formes already if I'm getting very personal with it but I'm really not here to give you the impression that I want to know something that solely focuses on the Ratchet & Clank Universe. You two are doing far more than just being behind one IP which is well known, and reducing both of you only to this Franchise feels a little impolite to me. My interest lies within more than just that and it would be a very, very big honor for me if I could hear about the experiences you've made over the years within this business. The reasoning behind it is because of my huge interest in becoming an Concept Artist myself, and there's a chance for me to study it in my hometown. Well not now but sometime in the future, until then I have enough time to improve my skills.
...Oh god, it is so embarrassing to ask such questions. I'm so sorry! I am a very curious person, probably a bit too curious for my own good. Hahaha!
Again I'm very sorry if I'm crossing the lines here and I respect your decision of not answering to my message.
I wish you all the best!
Sincerely:
KokoaMinto

To all of you who made the Ratchet and Clank movie, seriously, CONGRATULATIONS.Β If there was still a stereotype about videogame movies not being usually good, you definitely broke it forever.
I'm glad I got an extra big drink and popcorn because ohhhhhh boy it was SO GOOD. Just, everything about it is so wonderful... you've all definitely done the franchise justice. I didn't expect less from Insomniac, but honestly, my childhood is saved. Thank you all.
I really wish the theaters over here treated the movie with more respect, though. They only gave it one session and didn't even announce it, but my friends and I were determined to see it. I hope once they see the HIT this is going to be, they decide to give it more screen time, because I'm pretty sure it'll be a remarkable landmark when it comes to "movies based on videogames". Β You just set the standards for the genre... pretty high.

I remember getting Ratchet and Clank back when I was a little kid. I got it by accident, thinking it was another game, and was kind of sad. I was a total moron for being sad. Ratchet and Clank was awesome, and when there was a sequel, I was overjoyed. It became a big part of my childhood, like the original 3 Spyro games, Jak and Daxter, and Sly Cooper. I'm proud of everyone involved in making the series for their hard work and wonderful finished products. I love the reboot, and I plan on going to the movie theatre with my family to see the film! It's just so surreal, that a game I picked up entirely by accident, turned out to be so amazing that it now has become a movie over a decade later!
