I'm not following, I guess I will ask Evan (inconspicious) about it all, cause I only have time to skim through your journal.

An offer by ~wordman

Title - One Hundred Thousand Flower Petals (spelled out,
NOT numbers)
Medium-Poetry

Description- The poem is told from the perspective of a fictional narrator. He's watching a beautiful girl lie down in a bed of flower petals that are falling from the trees above. The end of the poem where the narrator falls into the pile of flower petals is compared to falling in love.

if i were to want to work with this what would be the next step?

So far Our major accomplishment is bringing awarness of this idea to the overall community, and to an extent, developing the means by which it can be executed. I think that right now we should urge all of those on the friend list, including myself, to seriously start creating works. We have the base of interest that is needed to get this thing started. So, that said.. What do You think the next step should be?

ha, good question. i guess i'm still lost in what happens after you submit a new piece. someone decides they want to work with it, but what exactly are they working on?

personally i think it would be easier to have two deviants decide to work on a topic together, and then start from scratch. i understand that if someone already has a piece and another deviant decides they want to add their two cents then it may work out ok, but i'm not sure where a person would go from there if there is already a complete piece.

what do you think?

DevUnity In reply to turbopat [2005-02-17 15:22:35 +0000 UTC]

To answer your first question:
The idea is that some one posts a piece that has already been produced and posted on deviant art, others may then choose to produce a piece that is based off of, and will incorporate, the other piece. At least that is as it stands, I think one thing that would really help would be to encourage the complilation of 2 existing pieces.

Addressing the second:
So, a deviant would propose a subject/project and others would respond to that? I, personaly, would like to make sure that poetry gets its fare share... this seems that it would again fall to the visual arts for the most part. Thats not to say I'm against it, just that I think it should be kept in mind when implementation occurs. Which brings up the question... How would this be implemented? there are sevearl obvious ways, but I would like to hear your thoughts.

well yes, we don't want to defeat the purpose of devunity by having people put up an idea for the subject/project and then make a picture or anything unrelated to writing out of it. You'd have to make it well known that the ideas are strickly for writing, or else i'm sure that would happen.

i guess one of the easiest ways would be to have a topic, general or specific, be suggested and have writers who are interested combine their thoughts and ideas to come up with one piece. you could have it be a weekly or monthly thing, maybe writing about it in the journals or some sort of post.

however i do like your idea of having two people combine two previous pieces. i think that would be difficult, but it would be interesting to see the results. i think it would work the easiest if they were certain traditional styles, but homebred styles would probably be more difficult.

i'm just rambling about my thoughts on how this may or may not work i don't know if this helps any.

It helps immensely , infact you've given me (I hate that I have to keep refering to myself instead of "us"). I've been thinking about how to run a contest that wouldnt be "create a work based off of this piece".. because that biased as the base work will win regaurdless... but by setting a subject and saying create a piece based on this subject, post it in a designated area and then collaborate with another post to create the final contest submission. You could even use posts of another medium to inspire your piece with the intention of collaborating with that piece.

On the "existing piece collaborative", how can that be encouraged more? hmmm... I truly appreciate all of your thoughts. Thats all of mine for now.

turbopat In reply to DevUnity [2005-02-17 23:39:06 +0000 UTC]

how can it be encouraged more? well, let me think. so far you already have people watching you, so eventually the idea will spread. i like your idea of posting an idea but having two people collaborate and make a final contest submission though. maybe once you start the contests it will gain more attention? i know i'd participate...

if you want i will post a journal and maybe you'll get more watchers. as to encourage the idea more, i'm not sure what else you can do other than propose the idea. i think once the gears are set in motion, and more people understand what it is exactly you are trying to do, you will get more participation.

I was nearly certain that I had replied to this... apperently not. However, I will start thinking of a contest to post. I'm glad that you show interest in that idea. Any advirtiesment of DU is greatly appreciated and I've considered encouraging members to add a link in thier signitures, I myself have come across several interesting things in that manner. If you come up with an idea for a contest topic I would love to hear it.
