About titanosaur lateral bracing. I was blocked by asuma, so I'll post my reply here.
Um, I cannot really disclose the link right now, its part of a project on titanosaurs. I will link an example imageΒ svpow.files.wordpress.com/2009β¦ note the prominent enlargement of the cervical rib, and transverse process.

Oh, thanks for telling me about the status of the whole thing.
So, if I'm looking at the right thing, there looks to be a rugose texture(?) on the lateral projection; I can't tell if it's post-mortem cracking or an actual feature of the bone. If the latter, that would indicate keratin (like in apatosaurines), right?

Yeah, if its rugose there would be keratin covering the rugose region.

Waiting to hear of your opinion on the fissured claws

I should have noted, though, that I had absolutely no idea then and even the idea below is pure speculation. I really don't know, that's why I asked you originally.

Or, who knows, maybe the claws really were just like those of chalicotheres and the fissures in he unguals anchored sharp claws in life (maybe they could be used to hold down prey or something).
No hard evidence for this, but interesting speculation. I donβt know, thatβs why I asked you in the first place.

Here's what I think MAY be the reason for fissured claws.
There's a blog I came across that noted that chalicotheres had fissured unguals as well. Apparently, their claws (I presume it meant the keratin sheathes) grew out of and were anchored into these fissures, making them very strong and highly resistant to impacts. Maybe the same thing was true for the claws of Hyaenodon. Only instead of evolving claw strength for whacking other animals, maybe it evolved such strength to withstand forces incurred during running; after all, Hyaenodon is said to have been quite cursorial.

You're welcome.
Still thinking of uploading some artwork of my own (from my art class at school)...

go for it man. the recognition is worth it. some of my work are made during art class at school as well. the thought of actually contributing to the recognition of paleoart for me is an awe- inspiring feat.

Well, I don't have any paleoart to show at the moment actually, other stuff rather. Nonetheless, I think it may just be a matter of whether or not I stop being lazy and upload something.

Hey there. Yeah, I'm not sure if I exactly have a scanner (I probably do, but if I do, we don't really use it). Don't think whatever I draw is any good anyway, I joined deviantART to talk to people. Though, I'll see if I have the ability to upload stuff (not sure if I will), I have drawn in the past.
