Lol, I've actually seen that video before.
They use green polyester resin to make quick rough forms of parts, to save time. It's a proven approach that some of my GK friends use. I just like free-forming to create the basic form first. Certainly how I do it takes more time. Maybe I should try the other method sometime.

You sound like you have done some figure making before...

What's GK?

I haven't got any of my figurines (like the kind you make) posted. They're all smaller, keychain size, and generally chibi since it's easier to make. And I like small scale. But yeah, I've worked on a few. Even bought some smooth-on silicone and plastic too as a Christmas present to myself. Stuff works great once I learned how to make molds! XD I'll have to upload some of mine tomorrow and maybe you can give me a few tips? I haven't tried making anything bigger than 3 inches in a long time though

GK is 'garage kits' - basically small-batch runs that hobbyists do to make copies of the original by using mold. To cast in silicone mold, you break down a figure into cast-friendly parts geometry. I started in anime GK and then got into sculpting domain. But you will see that I still make my figures in parts rather then the traditional one-piece armature method.

I use Magic Sculp (without the "t" at the end of word Sculpt).
A word of caution - it's wicked on skin if you use it using bare hands like I do. I use latex gloves to mix the two-part putty, then finger smooth it on parts. I force myself to wash hands every 30 minutes, or else the stuff gets cake on in your finger prints. I use baby wipes soaked in water for smoothing, cleaning fingers, etc. Surface wetness matters a lot when smoothing by fingers. I use dry paper towel to control wetness on my fingertips.

I learned my lesson about using chemical compounds that have hardeners. @___@;; first time I poured plastic I got some on my hand, dried, and took layers of skin off. Got latex after that ; Also have some permanent green spots in one of my favorite pairs of jeans.

This is the same kind you used for your WIP right? Does it shape like clay until it hardens? And when's the best time to cut it-- before hardening or after?

Yes, I use it in my current WIP.
About cutting, I use Xacto knife - crazy sharp. Must wear thick garden glove (leather) on the hand holding part being cut. Best time to cut is within 12 hours. After that, you'll have to shave, trim, grind or sand.
I noticed your chibi stuff are what seems like free-hand formed. Recommend a basic set of sculpting metal tips (they look like double-ended dental tools). I use 3M Wet-o-Dry sand paper. 180, 220 grit for rough sanding; 400 grit for fine sanding; 600 to 800 for final surface prep for priming. I generally use epoxy spray can as surface primer.
