Oh, okay, haha, I met the guy at the hospital where I volunteer. He scares the crap out of me because he just looks very mean. I was prepared for him to come by one day and then the minute I turn my back to make coffee, he's behind me looking very angry that I didn't see him I was like DONT HURT ME. D:

Dr. Litke is his name I think, if I'm right and we're talking about the same guy!

Hahahaha, oh my god that sounds terrifying. That sounds much to emotionally stressful for a volunteer haha. And I'm assuming it's the same guy, since every time I've waved he's been very solemn unlike any other neighbor out here and he's never been neighborly. How do you know where he lives? Haha

LOL yeah, it can be really crazy sometimes. Fortunately he's the only scary surgeon.

I actually saw him at Carraba's on father's day, and he just STARED at me. It was so weird.

I looked him up on whitepages.com, along with a couple other doctors because I wanted to see how big their houses were, lmfaooo. I have nothing better to do than sit there the entire time and stare at the lists of surgeons at work that day, hahahaha.

HAHA, yes!!

Well, I've been "involved" for about a month, going to an orientation and all that, then I had two training sessions three weeks ago, and then last friday I was there by myself for the first time. The first thing I usually do is check to see if he's doing any surgeries so that I can be aware he's going to be around, haha.

My usual shift is friday 5-7, and I'm convinced that one of these days I'm going to be the only one in the surgical waiting room where I "work," and the lights are going to go out and he's going to come in with a scalpel and kill me.

At least, that's how I picture it all playing out.

I'm hoping to get some "skills" or whatever from it so that I can get a job. Like, be able to say I have some sort of experience other than being a temp employee at random places, lmao. It's fun though, all of the other surgeons are really sweet. :]

I think that manner of death is much to cliche for someone of his angry stature. If he was bent on killing you it would make much more sense to catch you out of the element your getting used to where there are chances of being noticed. I mean if I was crazy surgeon... well then again I guess crazy implies they might think differently... Never mind then. Haha

But yeah, having a place that will vouch for you is awesome, Mud Monkey and Seabreeze will vouch for me in whatever profession I fall into be it art or education. : ]

Oh dear, that does make more sense. Maybe then it'll take place when I go back into the "authorized personnel" area to deliver the papers at the end of the day. He's going to jump out with a mask and scrub cap on and I'll never know what hit me...

Basically I sit at a desk in the surgical waiting room, and the surgeon will call me from the OR and have me see if family is there for so and so, and then if they are, have them meet him/her in different places to talk.

Or, the scrub nurses or someone at the nurses station will call and ask me questions about whether or not there is any family there, tell me when patients go to recovery, and when they actually get a room in recovery (it usually takes a ridiculous 2+ hours) or if they got sent back to the same day surgery building.

I also deal with sometimes very angry family members and very nice ones, and I get updates from the surgical desk for them.
I have to keep logs of everything too, who's in and out of surgery, whether or not the surgeon called or came down in person, who's been discharged, ect.

You have little stints where it gets super busy and ones where there's absolutely nothing happening. I have, who I think is the head nurse or whatever for surgery come through and remind me that no matter what I do, it's okay because I can't kill anyone! :'D It's always nice to be reminded, hahaha.
