Hey you already got a reply but umm..i took everything off it then sanded it back completly and gave it sum undercoat nd yer then i just taped it up and painted it ...dunno if that really helped lol

Hi there
I didn't use sandpaper to remove the paint, I used it to prepare the surface so that I could give it a coat of white primer, which is what you should do before painting onto wood. Don't worry about removing the existing coat of paint, just sand it down and prime it.
