NO. I've been away from 9 AM to 10 PM. Same thing will happen tomorrow. I'll see if I find any pink paper during weekends.

Horrible that it doesn't exist.

I'm guessing "bordeaux" is a kind of wine-red to you?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

ftpaddict In reply to Impertabablis [2011-06-01 22:24:38 +0000 UTC]

We could call it burgundy, but I prefer the original French title. You, being from Louisiana, should be familiar with French, at least to an extent. Or am I just stereotyping now?

Impertabablis In reply to ftpaddict [2011-06-01 22:51:28 +0000 UTC]

I am familiar with French, to an extent, as you say. It'd probably be the easiest language for me to "finish" picking up.

But, alas, I've forgotten most of it.

Beautiful color. One of my faves.

ftpaddict In reply to Impertabablis [2011-06-01 22:52:14 +0000 UTC]

That's too bad. Knowing a foreign language is nice. Except if it's Spanish. I really hate Spanish.

Namaste is an Indian greeting; and I have no idea what you said or what use learning Chinese would have.

You've got a lot of Chinese laying around or plan moving to China?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Impertabablis In reply to ftpaddict [2011-06-02 15:35:59 +0000 UTC]

I used to work as a translator. One day I would like to spend and extended period of time in China, but I'm much to into capitalism to move permanently to a communist country.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

ftpaddict In reply to Impertabablis [2011-06-02 15:38:24 +0000 UTC]

China is more capitalist than you could imagine. I know someone who's doing a master's degree in Directing in Beijing, and another friend of mine is going to get her PhD in Shanghai. It's all good.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Impertabablis In reply to ftpaddict [2011-06-02 15:49:33 +0000 UTC]

The current political party in power views Capitalistic and Communist methods as "steps" to achieving what they consider utopia. It's very cleanly calculated. They won't think twice about bulldozing someone's house over for pregnancy law violations, or locking up an intellectual for not toeing the party line. They consider these actions, and many others, as subversive to their end goal, and therefore fill justified in using very harsh methods to keep people in line.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

ftpaddict In reply to Impertabablis [2011-06-02 15:52:53 +0000 UTC]

They do the same thing in the US, only more subtly.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Impertabablis In reply to ftpaddict [2011-06-02 16:08:20 +0000 UTC]

They do the same thing from one extreme to another in every country. There needs to be law and regulation to maintain order.

China infringes on personal liberty too much for my taste. They're very community orientated, which has its strengths and its weaknesses. Socially, they tend turn a cold shoulder to any one individual plight or idea. Words for "self" have a strongly negative connotation in the Chinese language. It is the closest country to the Star Trek "Borg" society model as you will find. China will churn out whatever units it needs, and crush whatever malfunction it needs to survive and continue down its path.

America allows personal decision to have much more of an impact on our society than many non-European countries. It's why we often come across as so fractured in ideals and practice.

ftpaddict In reply to Impertabablis [2011-06-02 16:17:23 +0000 UTC]

Huh, if you read slashdot on a regular basis, you'll see how there's an article posted almost every week, discussing the shrinking liberties of the average US citizen and how much better Europe is starting to appear to foreigners.

One quick thing I could think of that's somewhat related: A teenager in the US got a $650,000 fine for torrenting an album. In Germany, a similar situation was judged thusly: The defendant was considered to be the equivalent of a radio station (acquiring and sharing music through various channels) and was made to pay a broadcasting license fee - 400 euros.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Impertabablis In reply to ftpaddict [2011-06-03 01:02:36 +0000 UTC]

The US judiciously guards intellectual property. Any American who isn't aware of the laws regarding such is living under a rock. $650,000 is steep, but I'd have to review the case details to give an honest opinion of it.

As for the shrinking liberties, I think that's more closely related to our debt than anything else.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

ftpaddict In reply to Impertabablis [2011-06-03 08:59:33 +0000 UTC]

The US judiciously guards the interest of RIAA and MPAA lobbyists. who take people to court and make them go to jail for downloading 12 songs. The legal fees alone far surpass the value of those 12 songs.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1
