Well, to be honest I've kind of sworn off both commissions and true realism, but if you're referring to the speedpaint-semi-realism I've done recently we might be able to work something out. What kind of image do you have in mind?

My only concern about doing a commission is that I'm A) a perfectionist, and B) a procrastinator. But the speedpaint style is fast enough that I don't think those would be much of a problem, especially since I'm about to go on Winter Break and would have more than enough time. I just want to make sure you know that I might not get it done right away if I do accept it. I'll do my best, though. I've really been enjoying the style.

Lol, I think fire would be a bad idea considering the horrible smell they make when you kill them. My method of befriending him has been to leave my room light on since he does seem to enjoy flying around it That light is mounted to the ceiling, so he's safe from me when he's up there. But still, the second he reaches a place where I can catch him he's going straight into the toilet. Now, before you think ill of me, it's actually so cold outside that whenever I evict a stinkbug through the backdoor I can find him dead the next day exactly where I left him. So, these days they get a "burial at sea", and if they're lucky I'll sing a line or two from Rule Britannia after I flush it.

Well, when I wrote that stinkbug themed journal a few months ago, they were actually just crawling into the house through my air conditioner (which I've since replaced). The thing is, now it's so cold out that stinkbugs are naturally in hibernation mode. So, the stinkbugs we get during the winter are probably ones that crawled into the attic earlier during the fall. When the house temperature gets warm enough they wake up, think its spring, and start coming down into the lower levels through any crack they can find. Stinkbugs are really soft, so they're particularly good at getting through tiny openings. Anyways, I think they're probably getting in through the vent in my roommate's bathroom, since that vent just leads directly into the attic. Sigh. Fortunately, it's only like one or two new stinkbugs a week. I can live with that... but can they?!

XD That's amazing. I've been a Flusher of Insects myself since I was little. My dad is arachnophobic and I grew up in a house in the woods, so every time a wolf spider found its way into the house I was the one to take care of it. Though around the age of eight I would catch them in a bottle, put a dot of white-out on their back, and let them go to see if they would get back into the house. I must have marked about ten of them, and only one ever returned. This leads me to believe that I'm a rather mad scientist myself. *begins cackling as the next set of thunder rolls by*

Ah, so they have a back-up plan. To catch them more easily you could try putting a light on the floor, turning the big one off, wait for them to come down to where you can reach them, and then take them to their watery grave.

My great-grandpa lived in Utah and I remember one time we went to visit him my grandma got an idea. My brother and I loved all the bugs, so one night just after sunset she hung a big white sheet outside and shined a bright light at it, creating a HUGE bug-beacon of DOOM. Can you say hours of endless entertainment? Though I do recall that there were these big spider things that came crawling up to it which were slow enough for my brother and I to catch without being afraid of them. We soon discovered that if you put two of them in the same jar they'd fight to the death. But all in all we only got about four of them, so no real damage done, I suppose? lol.

Ooh, that's an interesting idea. Maybe I'll try the white-out thing next fall. I would be very interested to know if the stinkbugs I release just end up finding their way back inside. I do know they leave scent trails the way that ants do, so I wouldn't be surprised if they found their way inside again.

Usually I can catch them if I wait until the afternoon. By then the bug is either hanging out on the window, or dead in the glass undertray of that overhead lamp of mine. Or as I shall now call it, the Undertray of Shattered Dreams Stinkbugs are the only ones that get the "honour" of being buried at sea though. Once they reach a certain size, house centipedes have kill on sight status with me. Something about how quick they move really freaks me out.

Man, that sheet of DOOM sounds awesome! I remember camping out as a kid and watching as all sorts of different kinds of bugs would do laps around this lamp we had. Good times

The bodies turned out really well, especially on the Morbid one. You have the shape down almost perfectly. If you're going for the full-on original IZ style, I suggest making the gloves/boots/legs a bit thinner (though having them thicker is rather common; even I have some images like that). I'd say the next step would be studying some of the art from the show. This image is really useful, I've found: [link] Getting the shape of the head right is probably the hardest thing to do, so I'd suggest drawing them for practice while looking at a reference. When I practice such things I usually just fill up a page with as many sketches as I can; no need to ink it, color it, or draw the rest of the body if you don't want. Just keep drawing the shape till you think you've got the feel of it. It's a bit tedious, but very useful. And again, keep your eye on the ref since that's how you'll know it's right. You might be tempted to trace, but that's generally not helpful, so I discourage it even for practice.

I say keep at it. You've already made an awesome amount of improvement! Send me links when you have some new images. I'll be curious to see them.

It's a good start. The image itself is of much better quality than most I've seen from Paint (I'm assuming it's made in MS Paint, so correct me if I'm wrong) and you already have very clean coloring. Keep at it! You've got potential!

You'll love using a tablet. It's extremely helpful once you get the hang of it, and it generally doesn't take long to get used to.
