I too have a fascination with mental illness, especially Schizophrenia. As that is my current mental illness, I like to study and look at new information as to how the disease manifests and the experiences people feel as they experience their own symptoms. It really does get quite interesting.

I'm actually making a character suffering from schizophrenia. He gets hallucinations, voices, and the occasional word salad. But other then that, I got nothing. If it isn't too personal to you, maybe you can tell me a bit of your experience from Schizophrenia? I'm new to writing but I wanna write mental illnesses as realistic as possible ^_^

As both a fellow writer and a clinically diagnosed Schizophrenic, I be happy to lend you a hand.
First thing is first: forget every misconception about schizophrenia that you have ever heard from TV or read from a book other than one that describes schizophrenia as clinically accurate. The media tends to hyperbolize or make exaggerate schizophrenia almost like it causes aggression or randomly attacking.Β
Another thing I can say is that not everyone suffers schizophrenia the same way. Some schizophrenics, like me, can still function and maintain a normal style of living. And at the same time there are those who antagonized more heavily, even to the point where they spend most of their life in hospital wards. There is a whole spectrum of levels of schizophrenia, from the mildest to the most outlandish and overall heaviest.
But I'm guessing you want to hear about my story. Well this may take a while.
For me, my experiences have been a mix of both positive and negative symptoms, of happy and horrid times. I've lived secluded on my own without contact with other people - despite my parents, who really helped me get through the Hell I was undergoing at the time. I suffered auditory hallucinations that seemed as loud as actual voices, and delusion spells over implausible events and crippling anxiety attacks that would leave me weak for days. This was a really sad chapter in my lifeΒ
One time I even remember the sky turning red even though it was still actually blue, yet my mind's madness made me see this and it was scary. I remember I would remain catatonic for moments or minutes at a time, me being completely helpless as I felt I was trapped in my own body with no way to reach out for help. I would see items blurred and voices distorted, almost as though I was struggling to understand what people were saying to me. ButΒ for the most part, I would just mainly hear auditory hallucinations - mostly harmless nonsense that wouldn't be of concern.
One thing I gotta say is that I owe it to my medicine that kept me in check. Without it, I probably would've continued suffering and heading down a negative route.

I know I might sound really ignorant or dumb when I describe my character's state of mind, which might sound rather exaggerated too, but I guess that's the whole point of me conversing with you lol. I'm trying my best to make it as realistic as I can.
His name is Rei (Ray), and when he was 12 he was kidnapped, trafficked, and torture as pretty much his daily life after that (I won't go into too much detail or else this comment will be a freaking book lmao) but when the authorities rescued him they found it it was too late and Rei developed multiple illnesses from the trauma. (After 4 years of hell for him too. So too little too late for those authorities)
Rei was in a really dark point at the time, he stayed in hospitals a lot for a short period of his life.
But in the darkest, anxious, and triggered times, he would hallucinate his captors or the other children who was "bought" too. The hallucinations were pretty intense, with visual and auditory effects going on at the same time.
If Rei was left alone, his state would've been so much worse, but usually there's an adult or a childhood friend of his present. If calmed enough, the full-on auditory and visual hallucination would cease, but even afterwards, Rei still felt really on edge and jaded for days.
He relies on his medication a lot, and he doesn't like to be alone in fear of another hallucination occurring and there's no one there to help him. Rei doesn't experience word salad anymore, since the medication toned his symptoms down, he just occasionally repeats himself unnecessarily.
So yea, that's a bit on Rei's mental state, but I want to know of its even possible to have Schizophrenia because of extreme trauma? He also has some anxiety and depression, but it's mainly his schizophrenia. I know I probably sound stupid and ignorant about mental illnesses, but again, I have a fascination on psychology, and I want to write about this type of stuff. But I'm afraid I'm exaggerating and unrealistic about this, if there's anything wrong in how I described Rei's symptoms please correct me!

No. You did an amazing job composing the story.
I will have to say that maybe Rei may be suffering from another type of mental condition called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD as you've known). Not to say he may not be suffering from schizophrenia - after all, there are many ways the disease may be contracted and attained. But the plot sounds really interesting. A former child slave going through the aftermath of his ordeals, reminded constantly of the pain he has felt, and the sorrows of being haunted by his past.
Though I did say Rei might actually be suffering from PTSD, that doesn't mean he may not feel the symptoms of schizophrenia. Torture can break a person's mind until there is nothing left, and I gotta say that it's probable Rei could have developed schizophrenic-likeΒ symptoms. The key thing to note is how you described his symptoms. Strong visual and auditory hallucinations couple with fear anxiety definitely fit the bill for schizophrenia.

Omg thank you so much! And the way you described my precious green haired baby was spot on lol.I can definitely imagine Rei saying something like "I should be free now. But I'm not." Because it really does describe how his mental state sorta is. He's constantly haunted by the sins of his past.
I also made an AU (Alternate Universe) of this story. In the alternate universe, Rei was never rescued by the authorities. Instead, he was killed in the hands of his captor after trying to escape. But the alternate universe is set in a world with races like Ghouls and people with animal parts, and the most "dangerous" one, the Grim Reaper family. When Rei died, the Grim Reaper mother, River Styx, visited him, and they both set a contract. The contract stated Rei would have another chance at life, in return, he must look after River Styx's daughter.
So after the death of Rei, and agreeing to the contract, he became resurrected into a computer program. (Keep the fact that he was resurrected into a program in mind)
Perrin Yagi, previously known as Prusè Aoi, committed suicide at the age 13, but since she's a Grim Reaper, she couldn't die by unnatural causes. So as punishment for her attempt at death, a contract was made that created a new body for the dead child. Now Prusè is 18 year old Perrin. She made her own virtual reality conversation program, but one of the customizable skin models became a whole new different person; The savagely murdered Rei. Now known as Reiju (Ray-Joo) .
Reiju is basically a person who is now trapped inside Rin's electronics (who is now wealthy after her program turned out to be a huge hit). In this story, contracts is kinda the main topic. Like how the journals is the main topic in Gravity Falls, or how gems are the main thing in Steven Universe. There's lots of cases of dead kids who get resurrected by the Reaper's contracts, like suicidal Prusè into Perrin, and murdered Rei into Reiju. So since there's a lot, Perrin made a group of these kids nicknamed the Grimshaw Gang.
There's some other characters involved in this story, but I want to focused more on those two. I'm still making drawings of Perrin and another two characters, but if you want to see Reiju, look into my gallery (it's called He's Not Just A Program and Story Stuck In My Head)
Also, thank you soooo much for the watch and the praise! I've been working quite a while (2 years to be precise!) and there's so much more about Rei, along with Perrin. I hope we can have future conversations and don't be afraid to comment because I live for them comments lol.
